Unemployed people kill themselves at around two-and-a-half times the rate of those in work econ.st/2R3ukJj

The simple-minded, economically illiterate scaremongering from the neoliberal press is coming thick and fast. No natural, systemic causes and effects are at work here - these people actually want us to be 'disciplined' by 'markets' for all eternity. 'Highly original' my arse.

Andy Burnham says land in the UK is ‘undertaxed’ ft.trib.al/64bULpI

“… yet we also think we can always achieve full employment no matter what”. MMT doesn’t say any thing close to that, John. Never has. Very disappointing.

Mosler said it. It takes a deliberately selective (and not well-intended) reading not to see it: “As long as they want to send us goods and services without demanding any goods and services in return, why should we not be able to take them?” In any reasonable person‘s mind …

MMT never said that the nation’s growth rate is unaffected by the size of the trade deficit. In fact, the exact opposite is true. MMT suggests that a trade deficit that undermines foreign willingness to save in dollar denominated assets could reduce growth rate to zero. ZERO!

So what you’re saying is that ANY trade deficit whatsoever puts the US on an unsustainable path?

@AusMMT @ProfHall1955 @wbmosler @petrock @ProfSteveKeen @baylissbaghdad There is such lack of rigour in your thought here though. “We recognise constraints, yet also we’re not constrained from reaching full employment and maximising domestic demand”.

JFC, John, the constraint BOTH domestically and internationally is that folks must be willing to save in dollar denominated assets. That’s ALWAYS been the MMT position. If so, and resources are available, here and abroad, FE can be ensured by maintaining demand w/o inflation.

@wbmosler @J_MoAGoGo @petrock @ProfSteveKeen @ProfHall1955 @baylissbaghdad And even then it is not as constrained as he states, see Bill Mitchell, Fadhel Kaboub, yourself, etc. That doesn't mean there are NO constraints, though. << That is where constructive critics seem to stumble.
