You will never see that again....EVER! Once upon a time, the Dems feared GOP attacks on them for deficit spending and soaring public debt---so under Clinton that leaned hard into a surplus. NO MORE. Now that the GOP has been Trumpified, we have two parties competiting to spend, borrow, print, inflate and wreck American prosperity.
Today In History@historigins

In 1998, the United States achieved its first federal budget surplus in 29 years, effectively ending a streak of deficits that had lasted since 1969. This milestone was achieved under President Bill Clinton, following the passage of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which resulted in a fiscal surplus of approximately $69 billion for that year.

There are a lot of journalists and publications doing great work. WSJ has stood up to a massive lawsuit. Chicago Tribune editors were fearless during Midway Blitz. Many other examples. But broadly speaking, he’s right. The media must stand up for itself.

In an appearance before a press-rights group in New York this evening, New York Times Publisher A.G. Sulzberger had some pointed words for his peers atop U.S. media organizations.

@AJManaseer Daley said it was going to be used as a revenue stream but instead used it to balance the budget. Bait and switch.

It is widely accepted that the famed Chicago Parking Meter deal was a disaster for Chicago. And it was, but not for the reason people think. Selling future cash flows for a lump sum payment today is not, on its face, necessarily bad. Assuming a fair discount rate was used, the two options are neutral. Neither is a “better deal” than the other. The problem came because the city sold the meters while they were dramatically undervalued. Collections were spotty and parking rates had been politically suppressed. The new owner professionalized collections and had no hesitation to raise parking rates because they weren’t afraid of losing their next election. Within only a few years it was clear that Chicago got taken. Even without this aspect it was still a bad idea (mostly due to the 75 year term), but had they sold the meters for their fair value, it wouldn’t have necessarily been such a bad deal. Especially if Chicago did something smart like invest the money instead of using to plug budget deficits.

Chicago is one of the hottest housing markets in the country right now. And within Chicago, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square and Avondale are the most in-demand neighborhoods. therealdeal.com/chicago/2026/0…

Even certified moron @jessiefor26th is trying to cash in on the sue-and-settle racket. Jailbird Jessie is suing for $100K over her 2025 arrest for interfering with federal immigration agents. Fuentes is claiming being briefly cuffed and escorted from the hospital by federal agents caused — amongst other things — "sleep difficulties and nightmares." G*d Almighty. The judge in this case should dismiss the suit and impose a fine on Fuentes for abusing the legal system.

@MissinRoyko Yes. Following Trump’s lead in Iran is going swimmingly. We should believe what he says on all things. I’m a smart person.

Wouldn’t you think that if the largest city in the state you govern is running rampant with crime, and the President offers help to reduce the crime, that you would accept the offer as quickly as it was presented BUT ridding Chicago of crime and keeping Illinois’ citizens safe from harm is not as important to JB Pritzker as is winning elections You see giving Donald Trump credit for saving lives in Chicago through federal intervention would not work for JB Pritzker as it would show his ineffectiveness as governor And Pritzker’s personal political agenda is far more important than saving human lives Just ask the families of those who have died or fallen victim to crime due to Pritzker’s refusal to repeal Illinois’ Sanctuary State status or the SAFE-T Act J B Pritzker is a failure as governor and a detestable human being who should be removed from office not given a third term
Eric Daugherty@EricLDaugh

🚨 BOOM! President Trump just ERUPTED on traitor Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, saying he could SOLVE Chicago crime in just 90 days "JB Pritzker's a SLOB of a governor. You know, he could call me, and I'd send the National Guard in — Chicago would have NO crime." "You see the DC crime stats? It's like nothing, people go to restaurants now! It's a hot, beautiful city with almost no crime. We could have the same thing in Chicago." "All he'd have to say — president, I don't want any crime, can you help me? In 3 MONTHS, Chicago would be a different place."

It’s confirmed… Wray had paid assets in the crowd on Jan 6th. Agitators. Then he had 13% of all FBI employees were working on Jan 6 cases. 5,000 out of 38,000. Wray’s FBI was going after Americans that protested the stolen election Wray was covering up. This is treasonous.

Alderman Jessica Fuentes is suing the federal government (taxpayers) for $100,000 in damages after being detained in October which seems like a lot for someone who wasn’t arrested. She says it’s not about the money, if it’s not then it about wasting time & resources which the taxpayers will be on the hook for. Fuentes believes she’s above the law because she is “the product of a family that suffered from historical and generational trauma caused by having parents who were incarcerated and suffered from substance abuse disorders”.

We went to a dinner as a group and had a $500 bill. We tipped $40. We were happy we can be able to give our server something, but her reaction was the opposite. She told us she assumed we're going to give her at least $120. When we asked for the manager, she said she was just joking, but she wasn't smiling at all. Idk, but is $40 tip enough for $500 bill? I just feel like expecting $120 is not realistic..... 🤔🤔

I was the first Governor to endorse Obama for President back in 2007. I was there when he announced in Springfield Illinois. I have known him since 1995. Do I think it likely he ordered a phony intelligence assessment in December of 2016 to destroy Trump & his new administration? ABSOLUTELY!

Today was the last full day of attendance for the twelve seniors in my AP Physics class. Eleven of those twelve students have committed to engineering majors and were accepted into engineering programs across the country. One is headed to Cornell, several to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, one to Dartmouth, one to NIU, one to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and several to smaller schools. Most received scholarships and will be paying little to no tuition. The one student who chose a different path is passionate about sociology, though she absolutely has the ability to succeed in engineering if she ever wanted to pursue it. What makes this especially meaningful to me is that I don't teach at a magnet or charter school. I teach at a regular neighborhood CPS school. Most of these students are minorities, and some will be the first in their families to attend college. I'm incredibly proud of them and of the many teachers, parents, mentors, and coaches who helped them get to this point. Results like these are what keep me going, despite the challenges of teaching in an environment that has become increasingly political. They also remind me why I remain optimistic about the future and about the work still being done in classrooms every day.
