Thai police have dismantled a sophisticated AI-powered romance scam in Nonthaburi. Six Nigerian men, aged 23 to 35, were arrested for targeting older Thai women through elaborate fraud. The suspects employed artificial intelligence to generate convincing Western personas, such as pilots and doctors, and used fake video calls to establish trust. Victims were then persuaded to pay fabricated customs fees for gifts that never materialised. The operation also revealed connections to cocaine trafficking, with officers seizing phones, laptops and other evidence during the raid. Such crimes are far from victimless. They exploit the lonely and vulnerable with ruthless precision, turning tools meant to foster human connection into instruments of deception on a growing scale. While this highlights the dark side of technological advancement, it also raises pressing questions: how many more victims remain undetected? When will authorities across borders treat these transnational digital offences with the urgency they demand? Share your thoughts!

Six Nigerians Ran an AI Deepfake Romance Scam from a Nonthaburi Riverside Condo. A Cocaine Bust Led Thai Police to Them. Thai police raided a luxury condominium on the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi on May 22 and arrested six Nigerian men running a romance scam ring built on AI-generated faces and fake video calls. The trail started with cocaine. In April, police arrested a Nigerian man named Patrick and three associates on trafficking charges and seized 2.5 million baht in assets. The money trail led to foreign nationals on student visas living five or six to a unit in a high-end riverside condo near Phra Nangklao Bridge, none enrolled in school, none working. Police executed three warrants on three units, forcing entry after the suspects refused to open. One man tried to climb over a balcony. Another lay hiding on a bathroom floor, texting the other units to warn them. Officers seized 18 phones, three laptops, and three bank passbooks, the phones still open to active romance scam chats. The group posed as pilots, US military officers, doctors, and engineers, built relationships with older Thai women, then claimed a valuable package was stuck in customs requiring a transfer fee. Investigators recovered AI-generated Western faces used to produce fake video calls, and "sexy chat" scripts written to push older women toward transferring money. Police said a single well-crafted line could convince a victim to empty her account. All six face initial charges of illegal association (อั้งยี่) and immigration overstay. Fraud and romance scam charges are pending.

I have an idea that should sanitise this platform better. X should keep the Blue Check exclusively as a paid Premium subscription perk, a clear signal that the user financially supports the platform. At the same time, introduce a separate "Verified Creator" badge for accounts that genuinely earn it through consistent, original, and high-quality content. Criteria could include: - Hitting monetisation thresholds (5M+ impressions) - Strong originality score - Consistent, valuable posting - Truly engaging with their own followers and accounts outside their follower base This dual system would reward real effort, help users easily identify and support authentic creators, reduce engagement farming, and significantly improve content quality on X. What do you think? @elonmusk @nikitabier @X @Premium @grok #XCreators #MakeXBetter

Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad decision will come back to haunt him. He's boldly excluded stars like Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Harry Maguire, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and more in favour of a "balanced" and form-focused group (with a surprise recall for Ivan Toney). What was he thinking? Ruthless or reckless? England has the talent to go far, but dropping this much attacking creativity feels like a massive gamble. Will it pay off or blow up in his face? 👀

@Prince_of_web3 @Support @X @premium You claim full compliance, but you're not. You follow premium accounts, DM them asking for follow-backs + notifications on, then unfollow after 5 hours. You did exactly this to me 2 months ago. That's classic follow-churn and platform manipulation, which X explicitly prohibits.

You’re not adhering to X’s guidelines. You manipulate engagement by following Premium accounts, DMing them to follow back + turn on notifications, then unfollowing after 1 day. You did exactly this to me 2 months ago. That’s a clear policy violation.

Why was Peter Obi initially reluctant to greet President Tinubu at the Pope’s inauguration, requiring persuasion? 👀 A genuine leader does not look for public validation before doing what is right. As someone who follows Nigerian politics closely, I find Kayode Fayemi’s account revealing. Fayemi had to encourage Obi to approach, as Obi feared the media would distort a simple handshake. Fayemi noted they were fellow Catholics at a religious occasion, with Tinubu present as Nigeria’s elected leader. The exchange remained brief and civil. Obi acknowledged Tinubu as president. Nothing more. In my view, while caution about media spin is understandable in our divided politics, hesitation over basic courtesy at such an event highlights how deeply partisanship has eroded mutual respect. What are your thoughts?

Fmr. Ekiti Gov., Fayemi, Reveals How He Persuaded Obi To Greet Tinubu At The Vatican Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has revealed how he convinced Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to walk up and greet President Bola Tinubu during the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican City. Speaking in an interview on Edmund Obilo’s YouTube channel, Fayemi said Obi initially hesitated because he feared the handshake could be twisted in the media. According to Fayemi, both men attended the papal inauguration as Catholics and had breakfast with Cardinal Lazarus before heading to the ceremony, where they were seated a few rows behind Tinubu and his delegation. Fayemi explained that the moment began after Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Ojukwu, walked over from the presidential section to greet them. He said he then told Obi they should also extend courtesy to the president despite political differences. However, Obi reportedly expressed concerns that the meeting could be “misused in the media.” Fayemi said he reminded him that Tinubu was representing Nigeria at the Vatican despite not being Catholic. “Peter, please let us go,” Fayemi recalled telling him. He said Obi eventually agreed, and the two approached the president together. According to Fayemi, he welcomed Tinubu to the Vatican, but the president quickly responded with humour, saying he should be the one welcoming them because he was the leader of the Nigerian delegation. Fayemi said Obi then acknowledged Tinubu’s position, telling him, “Yes sir, you are our leader,” while thanking him for attending the inauguration. The former governor added that the interaction ended peacefully, with both sides exchanging pleasantries before Tinubu continued with other engagements at the Vatican ceremony.

Enny, an agreement is an agreement. Tinubu expressly told Fubara he'd be reinstated after the six-month suspension, but on the condition that he wouldn't seek re-election in 2027. Wike accepted the deal, too. That's the understanding that ended the emergency rule.
𝔼𝕟𝕟𝕪@ennyola0015

I have no pity for Sim Fubara, and I don’t think he has anything to worry about. Mr. Ibok-Ete Ibas had only 6 months to preside over the affairs of Rivers State, and he was satisfied. Sim Fubara still has over 9 months to achieve whatever he wants and gallantly exit the stage.

Eniola, Tinubu is actually restoring power to the grassroots. You can't live in Kano your whole life, then parachute into Oyo or Ekiti to contest and expect to win just because you were a minister. These guys overestimated their personal popularity outside their appointed offices. True local support matters more than Abuja connections. I'm loving it!
𝔼𝕟𝕟𝕪@ennyola0015

Just like Buhari, all of Tinubu’s aides who resigned to seek elective positions failed. These guys overrated themselves, and I warned them.

Exactly; you're running a news aggregator account. Most of the ad revenue probably goes to the original creators of those videos and images instead. Try layering in your own commentary, opinions, or breakdowns on the clips rather than straight reposts. X tends to reward personal insight and original takes way more than pure curation, and your earnings should reflect that.

Yes, because you're primarily a news aggregator. X likely pays thousands more to the original creators who own those videos and images you share. In my view, this is how the system is designed: it rewards originality and direct creation. If you start adding your own analysis, opinions, commentary, or unique takes on those videos/images (instead of just reposting), you'll likely see much better monetisation. Pure aggregation gets impressions, but original voice gets the real payouts.

That's heartbreaking. After all those years, the dad just walks straight past his own boy without a word. The lad only realises on the footage later. I'm pretty sure it's the mother's dramas that keep men like that away. I'm in a similar situation myself right now. Kids carry it for life. Almost crying.
