Okinawa - 21 May 1945 Combat medic and conscientious objector Desmond Doss is evacuated after being wounded by fragments of a grenade that he kicked away. His heroism had already been evident at Guam and Leyte (two Bronze Stars), but he would surpass himself at Okinawa and become a recipient of the Medal of Honor.

That’s what makes Hacksaw Ridge so powerful. Desmond Doss proved that bravery isn’t only about fighting; sometimes it’s about standing by your convictions and risking your life to save others. Running back into danger again and again without a weapon took unbelievable courage. Truly one of those stories that stays with you long after the movie ends.
