@JoeConchaTV Just to show how dumb this comparison is, on a typical day, Walter Cronkite would have 30m viewers; the best performing evening news today gets 8m viewers. That doesn’t mean that David Muir is a bum compared to Cronkite; it means that the days of appointment TV are long gone.

@Zigmanfreud To the contrary, if he wanted to, Colbert could easily launch a scaled-down podcast version of his show, not unlike “Conan O’Brien needs a friend,” or “Call Her Daddy,” and not only draw A-listers, but be highly profitable. My guess is he’s been asked & wants to catch his breath.

No one in the news media has mentioned this, but if Stephen Colbert was really being fired for political reasons, then his show should be very attractive for someone else to pick up, or for him to do on his own on YouTube. Why isn’t that happening? Because it would lose money and none of these celebrity guests who have been kissing his ass would keep coming on a show with an even smaller audience.
VANITY FAIR@VanityFair

‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ is officially a late show, as in no longer with us. Colbert signed off after getting absorbed into a metaphorical (and literal) black hole, and delivering this statement: “Paramount strongly believes in covering both sides of any black hole that is swallowing everything we know and love, and coverage must also include the positive aspects of the insatiable emptiness” vanityfair.com/hollywood/stor…

@Variety I thought it might be George Clooney, but who better to close out the show than the greatest pop musician of our lifetime, and a guy forever associated with the Ed Sullivan Theatre, Paul McCartney. Colbert’s show ended not with sadness, but with the eternal optimism of Sir Paul.

@Variety I’m always struck by folks who think that late-night is a static form that is “supposed to be” this or that. Comedy, like everything else, evolves. Jack Paar went off the air because he used the term WC for toilet, and it got censored. Colbert has moved things forward, not back.

Has #StephenColbert’s push into politics hurt the late-night format? Late-night was never supposed to play to a particular type of audience: #JohnnyCarson made fun of politicians, but mostly their public goofs, not their policies. #JayLeno rarely became political. And #DavidLetterman feuded with politicians but not over what they did in Washington. In 2026, late-night shows are a wholly different creation. “These shows were built to be vaudeville in the box in your living room,” says professor Dannagal Young, who studies political satire and the media preferences of liberals and conservatives. “They were a place to watch jugglers and clowns and funny people doing impressions. They were not made for this.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lHirU

@shipwreckedcrew LOL It’s no surprise that the conviction rate was high; this was one of the most documented crimes in US history. We’ve seen it from multiple camera angles. This was not a DC thief in the night, this was a mass assault in broad daylight. Of course, the conviction rate was high!😳

The US Attorney's Office for DC has a historical conviction rate at trial of around 65%. Yet the J6 cases were 100%. If you don't see the flaw in that juxtaposition -- then you're a brain dead liberal masquerading as a journalist.
Acyn@Acyn

MacFarlane: I'm filling a notebook with misinformation spreading about January 6th today. The idea that these cases were wrongful, no case was overturned, not a one on appeal. And lots of people appealed. They had a 100% success rate for juries at trial.

Just a quick note to express my disappointment at the #Nats demotion of Joey Weimer. As of yesterday, Wiemer led the team in both batting average (.300) and on base percentage (.410). Plus, he was fast, a good defender & smart. I’ll bet it’s a headscratcher for many teammates.

@ProFootballTalk @CSimmsQB C’mon guys, the list of defensive coordinators who flopped as head coaches is a mile long. There’s a reason that the Spagnuolo’s and the Fangio‘s don’t get a sniff as HCs anymore. Being a good DC doesn’t necessarily equate to being a good HC.

@ProFootballTalk @CSimmsQB What!? The point of mentalists & magicians is to entertain. Did you really believe, Mike, that magicians have superpowers? There’s no public benefit to your offering us an expose’. Thank God there aren’t more killjoys around.

@Djoko_UTD Not to be “that guy” who kills the mood, but a front facing, between the legs, reflex shot is simply an easier shot than a true tweener, in which one runs toward the baseline and goes between the legs with back facing the opponent. I thought it was gonna be a true tweener-lob.

@SenJohnKennedy This clip simply shows what an idiot Kennedy is: Given the complete supply chain shutdown during Covid, inflation was not only global, it was inevitable, worsened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The entire world suffered severe inflation w/the US recovering quicker than most.

You don't have to be a senior at Cal Tech to figure out why inflation rose to 9% under President Biden. He spent billions of dollars and threw money around like it was confetti. This gutted the middle class like a fish.

@AndrewKolvet Because the Comey indictment is universally recognized to be a joke, and most serious people in the FBI are embarrassed by it. Furthermore, the FBI is a vast entity, and only a handful of people would be investigating Comey in a case that will never ever get to a jury.

BREAKING: Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey claims that the FBI is "under seige" and admits that he is still having active conversations with personnel within the FBI. Kasie Hunt: "Do you still talk to employees at the FBI regularly?" Comey: "I do... They're under siege." Why is an indicted man still in contact with the very same people who could be tasked with investigating him?

@ProFootballTalk @CSimmsQB Sure, Kirk Cousins gets dragged for his ill-fated throw in the playoffs vs NYG. But the game’s real villain was Vikings’ DC Ed Donatell. Kirk played brilliantly, but simply couldn’t match NYG score for score when the #Vikings D could never get a stop.

@otokyo__ Ah, so wrong! Were there a God, it wouldn’t be some vain, vindictive, narcissistic, Trumpian entity looking for flattery. It would only matter what the quality was of the life you led. Believer, atheist, Buddhist, Catholic are all trivial distinctions.

@Kristinartz If you’re into police procedurals, the best show ever is the little known “19-2.” a Canadian cop show shot in Montreal. Four seasons long, there are 2 versions, one in English and one in French. I’m referring to the English cast. It’s available on Prime.

@ProFootballTalk What? You’re knocking Brosmer for poor play in his first ever NFL game at Seat? Seat made every QB look bad, incl Drake Maye. Brosmer played at least a half in 4 games, Seat, NYG, Det, & GB. His record in those games was 3-1. Strangely, few folks realize that.

@AlecLace Folks who constantly romanticize Johnny Carson completely miss the point. YouTube, PlayStation, and to a lesser extent cable killed late night comedy. Nowadays, there are simply too many entertainment choices. If you transported Johnny to this era, he wouldn’t survive either.
