It’s the #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisability and I just wrapped up a wonderful week of coaching wheelchair basketball for the first time in Rwanda. It was a fantastic return to in-person coaching after almost 3 years! Big thanks to my @ICRC_rw colleagues for arranging it!

Congratulations Afghanistan on a big win versus UAE at the @IWBF Asia/Oceania championships today! Came back from 10 down in the first half to win 65-50. After a tough 2-point loss against the Philippines to open the tournament yesterday, this is an important momentum builder. 🇦🇫

In @ICRC’s physical rehabilitation centres here in #Afghanistan I’ve witnessed enormous strength and determination. In the first half of this year alone we assisted 80,000 people. We help people walk again. Just as important, we help them re-integrate into society with dignity.

We are committed to supporting the people of #Afghanistan. The humanitarian needs are huge from weeks of heavy fighting. Thousands were injured, while hospitals were damaged or destroyed. We will not reduce our presence. We have worked here for 30 years. We will not stop now.

Congratulations to @EthiopianWheel1 and @ICRCEthiopia for partnering to hold a national #wcbb tournament at the end of March. First they became official members of @_IWBF, now they’re just the second ICRC-supported country to safely hold a national championship during COVID!
