@ChrisCoop_ I think it’s how much Volpe was hyped by the org. We didn't even look at Seager Correa or Turner because the Yanks were sure he'd be our guy. So when a new guy with similar numbers costs us nothing compared to a top prospect we took over elite SS, it's obvious who'll be favored.

I LOVED the Caballero trade a lot and still do. I talk about how much I liked adding a guy like that (with 3 + YEARS) for basically nothing, all the time. But I really just do not understand the craze and overhype behind this guy I just don't. He is what he is — a very valuable, pesky utility player. If he proves this wrong later in the year, I will genuinely happily call myself an idiot and retract. But the ABs this year have been rough and to be honest...the throws to 1B haven't even looked that good? I'm seeing a lot of throws in the dirt on routine plays that Rice has to scoop out, I saw a rushed throw on an average sprint speed runner to 1B on a routine play last night that had to be scooped... He's got - 2 OAA on the year so far. This year: 27.3 K% - 4.5 BB% .190 AVG .196 wOBA || .197 xwOBA 26.7 HardHit% 0.0% Barrel Volpe gave us a rookie season of GG defense at SS then a +13 OAA season the following year. He played through a torn labrum last year and looked vastly better defensively after the cortisone shot. He's always been a player with a higher ceiling than Caballero with marginally better offensive results than him and still plays in that same tier of defense as he does. And again, I LOVE Caballero and loved the trade, but that guy can do no wrong to such a large part of the fanbase. Nobody gets mad at Caballero like they do at Volpe when he drops a pop up, bobbles a grounder, throws balls in the dirt, got thrown out of two important games down the stretch last year for arguing with umpires, has similar noncompetitive ABs minus the underlying results not looking as good as Volpe's, and strikes out with RISP.
