I can’t understand people voting for the soc dems. SF you kinda get - lads still fighting a war in their heads, not realising that SF don’t care. Lab - same, lads think they’re still the party of the unions, not mass immigration. FF/FG - daddy voted for them. But the SD’s? Why?

The utter recklessness of successive governments on energy security is well captured here. People will die if the gas pipeline from Scotland stops functioning. Homes wouldn't be heated and businesses would have to close. This is all clearly understood in government. Yet still no storage facilities and no LNG import capacity exists, and it will be many years before this changes. All of this reflects the failure of the political class to understand that the first duty of government is to protect citizens and the state. More widely, it explains why another vital strand of national security - defence force modernisation and resourcing - is not treated as the emergency that it is. independent.ie/comment/sarah-…

another week, another village in Nigeria massacred and slaughtered by Islamists. And as always, the world is silent. No word from the Pope. No word from the UN. Nothing from France. UK. Italy. Spain. Anyone. Just silence. So weird.

🚨BREAKING: Japan just went full sweep: illegal immigrants are being tracked down, rolled up, and shipped out at record speed. They’re literally calling it “sushi rapping deportations.” (It sounds like a joke, it really isn’t). The Japanese people reject globalism.

The housing situation in Portugal is a travesty. Median net salary in Portugal is around 1200€. The average rent for a one bedroom apartment in Lisbon? Around 1300€ in 2026. Want to buy instead? It’s 400,000€. One salary literally isn’t enough for even the smallest house. Young people have no future. Entire generations are going to be plunged into poverty and homelessness. And what do the governments do? Nothing. They literally don’t care. Radical change is needed or something disastrous is going to happen.

Just because right now Gaza has beautiful cafes & restaurants, supermarkets fully stocked, a problem with diabetes, a population that has grown & its people have the leisure to run marathons, doesn’t mean they aren’t being annihilated by starvation in a holocaust.
Ahmed Al-Khalidi@khalidi79397

A genocide is happening in Gaza, they tell us. Then scroll your feed: Comma Cafee, just opened in Gaza City. Espresso machines, plated desserts, dim lighting. Vanilla Café. Upscale, glass facade. Nova Restaurant in Khan Younis: sleek wood interior, beachfront seating. Named, apparently without irony, after the music festival where 364 Israelis were slaughtered on October 7. O2 Restaurant. pizza, ice cream, milkshakes, TikTok food porn. Open-air markets in Gaza City with apples, avocados, oranges, bananas. Supermarkets stocked for Ramadan with imported goods. A "Gaza Coffee" brand selling 100% Arabica premium beans, taking online orders, with five-star reviews dated this year. Even Al Jazeera's writer concedes the cafes "were built with expensive materials, carefully painted, furnished with tables, sofas, and elegant chairs, with glass facades and shining lights." Now hold that next to actual genocide. Rwanda, 1994. 800,000 Tutsi murdered in 100 days. ~8,000 per day. Hutu radio read names of neighbors to be hacked apart by morning. No one opened a café. Cambodia, 1975–79. Khmer Rouge emptied Phnom Penh at gunpoint in 72 hours. Currency abolished. Markets abolished. Eyeglasses got you killed. Two million dead. The Holocaust. Warsaw Ghetto: 92,000 dead of starvation and disease before the deportations even began. Auschwitz processed 6,000 people a day into smoke. There were no glass-facade espresso bars in Łódź in 1943. Srebrenica, July 1995. 8,372 men and boys executed in days. No restaurants reopened. They were in mass graves. Armenia, 1915. Death marches into the Syrian desert. No imported avocados. The common thread of genocide is that the targeted population is not allowed to exist. Not in cafes, not in markets, not in their homes, not anywhere. The perpetrator's entire project is their absence. Gaza in 2026, by every honest description, is something else: a brutal war zone, partially destroyed, with a population suffering real hardship and simultaneously a place where new businesses open, beachfront restaurants serve customers, and a post war economy is being written about in business pages. Both things are true. That is what war looks like. Lebanon 2006. Mosul 2017. Mariupol 2022. Aleppo 2016. Civilians die and life adapts around the destruction. It is not what genocide looks like. So why the word? Because "genocide" is the most powerful word in the post-WWII moral vocabulary. It triggers automatic legal obligations, suspends normal debate, and short-circuits proportionality analysis. Apply it successfully and your adversary loses the right to defend itself before the argument even begins. That is exactly why it is being deployed by a side that started a war on October 7, took hostages, embedded itself in hospitals and schools, and now needs the West to force a ceasefire it could not win on the battlefield. It is asymmetric warfare with a thesaurus. The rockets failed. The tunnels failed. The word might not. Coffee in Gaza doesn't prove there is no suffering. It proves there is no genocide. Those are not the same claim and the people conflating them are counting on you not to notice.

RTE bogus self-employment scam claims another victim... The late RTE presenter Sean Rocks who joined RTE in 2000 and presented the Arena arts show on RTE Radio 1 weekdays for 16 years in 2009-2025, was classified as a freelance contractor in 2000-2019 and only reclassified as an employee in 2019. So, he had six years of pensionable service and not 25. Also appears to have affected his death-in-service payment.

Three hours of the RTE boss being grilled by politicians, and it is still not clear how the family of RTE presenter Sean Rocks (Image #1, Arena weeknight arts radio show) has been disadvantaged by his designation as a producer rather than presenter. We had the ex-RTE sports presenter and now-FG-senator Evanne Ni Chuilinn (Image #3) chew up her former boss, RTE Head of Sport Declan McBennett (Image #4) for refusing to change her designation from reporter to presenter, but we don't know the beef. Why is being designated a presenter so important, especially to benefits-in-death? And is the designation decided on a whim? Ye had three hours to tease this out, but it was all heat, no light.

A local cafe I like a lot has now put up a "Free Palestine" poster. I don't feel comfortable about this - don't like politics in social exchange, & maybe Jewish customers may feel put off - but am I wrong? Everyone is entitled to express their opinions.

A valuable video. The authentic face & voice of today’s Ireland. One of the Irish media feted heroes of the Flotilla calls for Israel “ to be disbanded” & slams all western governments as a “white menace spreading pestilence & violence wherever they go”. This is a medical doctor who is the sister of Ireland’s President.
Phelim McAleer@PhelimMcAleer

This is the sister of the President of Ireland. These other people who are trying to stop the OCTOBER 7 play coming to Ireland. This is what Irish people are hearing every day on their TV screen, on their media, in their culture. This is why we are determined to bring the OCTOBER 7 play to Ireland. The Irish people need to hear the truth.

Let’s be honest and try to piece together what happened to Alex Coughlan based on evidence available so far. Alex Coughlan was punched and kicked until he was unconscious on May 17th. He died three days later on May 20th. Those responsible for killing him we are told are two sixteen year olds. Due to our child criminal protection laws, nothing more is known about them officially. The social media story is that they are both non Irish teenagers. There is also a suggestion that they lured Alex Coughlan to his death and killed him because he was gay. This to me would suggest murder rather than manslaughter. If these two boys lured Alex Couglan to meet in a quiet lane with the intention of murdering him because he was gay, it is a monstrous hate crime totally alien to our culture. Similar has happened before in Sligo and the mainstream media covered it up as much as possible. Official Ireland is now deafening by its silence. No idiot Senators or TDs addressing leftwing racists outside Dáil Éireann. No ministers making comments. The MSN media are doing their best to cover up aspects of the crime like with Sligo. I for one am sick of it. There public demands the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If these kids are old enough to beat a poor man to death, they are old enough for the truth about who they are, what they did and why they did it to come out. RIP Alex Coughlan.

As Iran continues its orgy of executions Iran’s ambassador, with the Irish government’s agreement, welcomed by & pictured with President Connolly at official ceremony in which he presented his credentials. Wonder was there any discussion of the estimated between 30,000-40,000 anti regime protesters murdered in January, or the almost daily torture & execution of those imprisoned & the continuing orgy of Iranian death sentences? Any mention of those scheduled to be executed this week, incl Iran’s football captain, as our President is a football fan? Or perhaps of Iran’s colonisation of Lebanon through its Hezbollah proxies, its support for Hamas & acclaim of October 7 or its calls for Israel’s extermination or the blocking of the Straits of Hormuz or missiles fired at its neighbours? Nothing? . Just smiles, a handshake & the official photo to treasure..

"There are over 20 civil cases in state courts across the country involving detransitioners who allege that they were the victims of medical malpractice by their physicians and therapists. Andrew Ferguson, Chairman of the US Federal Trade Commission, tells attendees at the Genspect Detransition Awareness Conference what measures have been, and are being, taken to prevent the medicalisation of children and young people experiencing confusion and distress around "gender." Here is another opportunity to hear more on this work. ⬇️

100% there is no genocide in Gaza. No eradication project. People confused about what the word means is culturally appalling and dangerous for the future of western society. The confusion has indeed been engineered by people know what they are doing. No genocide does not mean simply too much death and destruction in war. It is about intent and action to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, in whole or in part. Sam Harris @MakingSenseHQ is spot on.
