With @oldheneel & @jtnshi (+ Ewan), we extend the PHA framework developed to optimize the SK model to become a negligible TVD-error sampler for beta < 1/2. 2 key conceptual observations: PHA implements ASL at high-temperature + Jarzynski's gives a way to rejection sample 1/2

@littmath @Noahpinion This is partly why I feel that the more theory-heavy fields of math might truly see the same level of encroachment from AI than discrete math/combinatorics a bit later. Note that it is Tim Gowers who was impressed; many others weren’t. We all live in our little worlds. 3/3

@littmath @Noahpinion @littmath - Discrete math, and combinatorics in particular, in my little experience, has been much more problem-heavy than theory heavy. Techniques are quite similar, and execution/clever observation go a long way. I don’t think these fields have the same culture as AG/ANT 1/2

@littmath @Noahpinion Consequently, the average size of papers in these fields are substantially smaller, and a clever “use of a tool” to solve some elusive problem is a big deal (like this problem, if I understand). Building tools from scratch and developing a theory for them is rare 2/3

With this, let me share an important announcement - I am actively seeking highly motivated & mathematically inclined PhD students to work at the intersection of TCS, probability & mathematical physics! If you are interested, and have a strong math background, get in touch!

Having double-checked and given a confirmation re-run, I am confident, so I’ll begin a series of 5 blog-posts. It will take me staggered intervals over the whole summer to write these. Will tweet every time one is ready! @oldheneel + Ewan will guide me in the endeavor! 2/2

Update: We fixed a small bug about the MLSI for our final Glauber sampler; we now use entropy-contraction of the polarized walk instead (since Glauber might not work). More exposition for theorem-5.1 also added. Many thanks to reviewers for a careful reading! 1/2
