1. There’s always more $$$ for the DA and prosecutors but public defenders are told to do more with less. The budget for the DA is 20% higher than for combined county public defenders. The budget also favors the DA’s staffing with 30% more budgeted positions than for defenders

Monday, March 30th marks the FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the Board of Supervisor’s approving the Men’s Central Jail (MCJ) Closure Report, and the 16th angelversary of John Horton the 3rd who was murdered inside MCJ by Deputy gangs.

Public defenders should not have to choose which constitutional rights to protect and which to neglect. Tomorrow we head into crucial negotiations with LA County and management. We are at a breaking point and we are standing together for our clients & our profession #UnionStrong

Yesterday the LA jails saw their 8th in custody death for this year. I've looked at a lot of years of their death data and if things were to continue at this pace 2026 would easily be the deadliest year in LA jails out of the past two decades.
