I read the Piapot statement on Buffy St. Marie and I respect Cree law and sovereign jurisdiction. If their family and community claims her then I respect that and I will make no further comment on this matter.

First Nations have sovereign rights to determine their membership, like any Nation. Even at common law, the SCC has affirmed our adoption law authority.
