A Russian pilot who had repeatedly taken part in bombing Ukrainian cities reportedly repented while still in the air. During a combat sortie, with his aircraft fully loaded with bombs and missiles, he suddenly changed course. Instead of flying toward Ukraine, the pilot allegedly directed his aircraft straight at a Russian airbase. The jet crashed into an aircraft parking area at full speed. A massive explosion tore through the base. Ammunition detonated, aircraft preparing for takeoff caught fire, and fuel depots erupted in flames. The airbase was engulfed in fire, with secondary explosions reportedly continuing for hours. According to preliminary reports, dozens of Russian military personnel and technicians were killed or wounded on the ground. The airbase, from which aircraft regularly launched strikes against Ukrainian cities, has reportedly been left paralyzed. It is also claimed that before takeoff, the pilot left behind a note saying he could no longer take part in killing civilians. He wrote that he had seen Ukrainian cities destroyed, seen children die, and no longer wanted to participate in the war. According to the note, he chose this act in an attempt to stop it.
