At least 716 abortions were recorded among girls below the age of 19 in Mumbai between April 2024 and March 2025, according to information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The data further shows that the city recorded a total of 20,950 Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) procedures during the year, with failure or inadequate use of contraception emerging as the most commonly cited reason. The information was provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Family Welfare Unit in response to an RTI application filed by activist Chetan Kothari seeking details on abortions, maternal deaths, and abortion-related deaths in the city. According to the RTI data, women in the 25-29 age group accounted for the highest number of abortions, with 7,296 cases recorded during 2024-25. This was followed by women aged 30-34 years, among whom 5,673 abortions were reported. The 20-24 age group accounted for 3,314 cases, while 716 abortions were recorded among girls below 19 years of age.

Here my two cents! Im gonna get a lot of hate for this. But it’s okay! Ladies! In any case if you are getting divorced, never get the custody of the kids. Leave them with the father. I know it’s hard, I know it’s gonna be heart breaking, but trust me. Your kids will be good with their father, than mother. Especially in a patriarchal society like India. The woman your husband marries will be forced to take care of them well, the mother in law will take care of them well. But that cannot be said about the man you are marrying. Or the in laws, or your own parents. They have a different surname, they will never be owned anywhere, and always live in constant identity crisis. Do this for your kids, get visitation rights, look after them from far.

I strongly feel that Girbala Singh was arrested only because of media pressure, with the understanding that the case would later be buried and the blame shifted to Twisha Sharma. Singh's being an ex judge,her connections are very powerful and tht shouldn't be underestimated. Given enough time, the media and the public will likely move on and forget about it....
