I told one class not to read ahead bc it would ruin my lesson plans. The next day, they all gleefully reported that they had wrecked my lesson plans. Little did they know, that WAS the lesson plan.

@IainBro Unless removed from power internally...I can't see how he backs down...he's pretty much all in.

What a great commercial for investment in Russia this makes.🤭 The hubris of one man, the willingness to go along of ultra-rich men is punishing the people of Russia. msn.com/en-us/money/co…

@IainBro @fordnation I prefer this approach in that you can teach it and make these connections. Yes making it explicit would be preferred but that would require acknowledging that curricula are always political and contested. Not a surprise, an opportunity...

This judgment was based on what I saw 'in' the curriculum. A colleague prompted me to look for what is missing, and it's really, really bad. Just to start, STEM ed's two biggest issues, race, and gender are not given more than lip service. Big fail. Not surprising for @fordnation
Iain Brodie@IainBro

Whoa!!! This is REALLY good! dcp.edu.gov.on.ca/en/curriculum/… Read the curriculum context! The expectations are SO much better even though we have familiar topics. I'd like to thank the people I know who helped create this and those that I don't.

@Teachers__Unite @Sflecce But @fordnation is going to give elementary teachers one-day workshops to learn the new science curriculum. He's only short by about the 120 hours it would take to understand and adapt our practice to the new curriculum. Now if he wanted to fund an AQ for all who wanted it?

Hey @Sflecce, where are the resources to support this new science curriculum? We're still waiting for ones to support the math curriculum you introduced two years ago!

@IainBro @JayWamsted And I tell the beginning teachers their job is to make sure they still like/enjoy learning and school and know how to learn - the specific content is variable.

@JayWamsted I have heard too many intermediate teachers say, "But we have to prepare them for high school." No, you don't. You have to teach your students grade 7 and 8 the best way for them to learn.

Is it coincidence that kids start to check out of their education during middle school? Right about the time that GRADES and TESTS and THE FUTURE start to dominate teacher talk? When learning for learning's sake is sidelined for outcomes? I'm thinking there's a connection...

@Teachers__Unite A better question might be why are teachers not provided with enough time to design awesome learning experiences tailored to their students? Stop buying textbooks and double prep time.

@IainBro @howie_hua So minus the visualization...this is how I was taught it and we also had to reproduce it in under 3 minutes (just for fun though...I think there was a bet with the math teacher involved for a session off...where he taught us how to use chopsticks and other useful non-mathlessons)

It's come to my attention that people don't know that the University of Chicago now guarantees NINE YEARS OF FULL FUNDING to all PhD students across the board in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Divinity. Including health insurance and a $33,000 annual stipend. #phdlife
