They survived state repression, arrests and political persecution. They sold young Africans a dream. They symbolized hope for a new generation. #Faye and #Sonko became symbols of change and resistance in Senegal. Now they look like another revolution destroyed by power, ego and political betrayal. Disappointed.

Ruto's EV import duty exemption sounds progressive on paper, but it reeks of poor, half-baked policy. Here's why: The first 100,000 electric vehicles exempt from import duty will not go to ordinary Kenyans. They will be gobbled up by the same government officials who will rush to order fleets of expensive EVs, charge them to the taxpayer, and call it "green policy." The cap will be exhausted before a regular Kenyan even realizes it existed. Kenya doesn't have public transport. What we call public transport is entirely privately owned. So who exactly is this policy for? The matatu owner in Kibera? The boda boda rider in Kisumu? Absolutely not. A genuinely impactful policy would invest in state-owned public electric transport, not hand duty waivers to a market that the wealthy will dominate. Instead, Ruto has gifted the political class another loophole to enrich themselves while the common mwananchi, who cannot afford an EV with or without tax breaks, is left out entirely. This is not climate policy. It is elite welfare dressed in green clothing. Dismas wa Tabu. Dreaming in installments. Billed in full.

Simon Sinek says parents are to blame for Gen Z's dopamine addiction and loneliness problem "Parents who give unfettered access to a device when a child is young are setting themselves up for some real challenges later" "We all know the social media companies are hijacking our dopamine systems. It's common knowledge now" "I think what Gen Z is struggling with more than millennials is loneliness. With the rise of AI friends, that's going to be a whole new thing"

Finance Bill 2026 is asking for permission to kill local businesses. Right now, if your company makes profits, you can choose to: • Reinvest profits back to business • Or distribute it as dividends to shareholders Finance Bill 2026 wants that removed. And be replaced by one hard rule. That, • At least 60% of your profits can be treated as dividends by KRA. Even if you did NOT distribute anything. “At least” means minimum. KRA can push it to: 70%, 80% even 90% if they don't like you. Read that again. Meaning: • If you reinvest all your profits in your business, KRA will says: - Noo. At least 60% must be distributed to shareholders. And since you didn’t, we will assume you did, and demand dividend tax from you. As a result: • You are taxed on money you never paid out • 5%–15% withholding tax on “deemed” dividends Who is in cooked? • SMEs reinvesting profits to expand • Manufacturing businesses expanding • Real estate firms with paper profits but no cash Who is safe? • SEZ companies • NIFC companies • REITs Because their dividends are already exempt. But for everyone else, this is a forced dividend rule. The govt is no longer waiting for you to run your business. They want KRA to run it for you. Is this fair taxation? Or forced extraction?

The G2G thing is one thing that wasn't explained to Kenyans well. 1. There is nothing government about it. It is a deal between private sellers and private buyers. 2. It isn't about price. In fact in my opinion, it is more expensive given oil is bought on credit. LCs cost!
Mohamed Wehliye, MBS@WehliyeMohamed

Baba called it G2G & wondered why it isn't acting like one. Ichungwa hit back & said it is G2G coz state owned entities are involved. I thought this was a commercial transaction between corporates facilitated by GoK. Neither UAE nor KSA govts have done a deal with GoK.

What aggravated nonsense! How do you suppose the 64 people who had been arrested over public order offences linked to the fuel price protests were released by Central Police Station OCS Chief Inspector Dishen Angoya if not through the intervention of President Charles Kanjama, SC? Not all actions require unnecessary noise!
EDGAR 🇰🇪@edgarwabwire_

I want you to look closely at how unbothered the current LSK President is. If it were Faith Odhiambo, she would already be everywhere fighting for the release of innocent people who were unlawfully arrested yesterday.

@NdindiNyoro Doesn’t exempting the Product therefore make the IOC liable to expense all input VAT across its supply chain, plus you have reduced their margins… Why would they still stay in that business.

FUEL PRICES: Proposal on the reduction of Fuel Prices. We have already written to Parliament with the intention to amend the VAT act and RMLF. Below are the proposed measures to ease prices. Reduce the importers and distributors margin by Ksh 4. Provision of an additional subsidy Ksh 5 Billion for diesel from the Fuel Stabilization Fund. With a monthly consumption of 202 Million liters – Ksh 24.75 per liter. Reduce VAT by 8% and make the products exempt. Reduce Ksh 7 Fuel levy that was added in 2024. The measures will reduce price of Super Petro to Ksh 187.38 and Diesel to Ksh 189.16. All these proposals are intermediary measures for short and near medium term. The comments by most non advocates in this post are really worrying and sulking. They hurl expletives and all manner of insults against the members of the Honorable Profession. They use AI and clerks to Advocates as rebuttal to justify 2k or even 1k as fees for drawing movable property sale agreement. I choose to ignore most of them. But hey, be rest assured of this. AI can never and will never replace human beings specifically professional. We have something that they don't. They're a creature of human brain thus it can't surpass the creator. It is only natural beings who can sieve specific clauses that are squarely relevant to your transaction and insert them with the necessary modification. For instance, how would AI know that your parcel you intend to dispose is charged as security for credit facility? With respect to our clerks drafting the agreement and charging 2k, give them the brief, but when it goes haywire, I hope you'll also retain them to prosecute the matter. Lastly, to Advocates, a Senior once told that always piga bei with your chest out. You can be open for negotiation but if they think that it still too much, gladly let them go. They can't afford you and the quality of service you offer. Advocates are not 'watu wa mikono' we're Professionals. Ni hayo tu kwa sasa, have a great weekend ahead!

I'm in Awendo town Migori County where I took my brother to witness sale agreement where he's disposing one of his property. The buyer retained an Advocate who drafted the sale agreement. Do you know what the Advocate charged the buyer for drafting the agreement? Kshs. 8000. Yes you read that right. And do you know the value of land? Kshs. 2, 850, 000. Yes you got that right. I'm so embarrassed I don't even want to disclose to the other other party and the drawer Advocate that I'm an Advocate. Oya Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal, you've one client here who's bringing shame, ridicule to the Honorable Profession. What nonsense is this?
