Mr. Skeletrix’s Body of Work is heavily indebted to late-period Ye (plus Yeezus obv). It goes beyond the album cover, as is evident by “House Party.” His delivery on that starting verse is to post-Donda Ye as Carti deep voice is to Future.

@bogosbinched damn…that’s terrible. hope my point didn’t come across as romanticizing WU or claiming that they weren’t cult like. I was just trying to highlight radical political action in that time of US history was also happening within a wider global unrest

OBAA is a Hollywood movie though. it’s not the place to look for good history or revolutionary potential. fun action scenes, though. the closing sections of SDS by Kirkpatrick Sale provide some great details on WU’s formation and its relationship to white radicalism at the time

the WU’s used acts of violence and riots, and they were driven partially by white guilt. the French 75 can’t represent this well because in OBAA, their goals are completely domestic and black led.

the WU was a splinter cell of the way more moderate SDS. they blew things up bc they saw themselves as the US frontlines of a global revolution. in the context of active decolonization struggles unfolding worldwide, their position went beyond a “larp”!
Jonas Čeika@Jonas_Ceika

All I'll say about the One Battle After Another discourse is that the 60s/70s American urban guerrillas it's drawing from WERE often in fact ineffective LARPers who did a lot of stupid things. Hence why, for example, Fred Hampton criticized the Weather Underground.

@VIRGINICIDAL @nonchalantly_ @disrupthehuman totally! I see some wild examples of this in the smart city projects I’ve been studying in Nigeria. postcolonial dynamics mediated through fantasies of technological surveillance

@KolaHR @nonchalantly_ @disrupthehuman Technology lean is interesting; I’m reading necropolitics rn and thinking about the predictive algorithms of race and society as computer with the rise of predictive algorithmic security and related things. Spitballing just to say that I find this intriguing

@nonchalantly_ @VIRGINICIDAL @disrupthehuman no fr, it’s too quiet in this corner 😭 DeForrest is doing great critical, in-depth work on Afrofuturism+black electronic music. I attended some talks of his, most recently in Berlin, where he had this unreal timeline of electronic subgenres and how they forked from one another
