Palmer missing out on the England World Cup squad should be a reality check for some Chelsea fans.
I’m seeing people say they’re happy he won’t be going because it means he gets more rest before next season. But how do you celebrate your supposed best player missing out on a World Cup squad that potentially include players like Madueke, Morgan Rogers, and Gordon?
Not because he’s injured, but because the coach doesn’t believe his performances deserved a place.
Every footballer dreams of playing on the biggest stage, and nothing in football is bigger than the World Cup.
Have some of you thought about how painful that must be for Palmer himself?
When I criticized Palmer before, maybe I could have worded it better, but my point was there to see.
Whether it was injury related or just one of those dips in form footballers sometimes go through, he just wasn’t himself.
Palmer was a shadow of himsel this season, but hopefully missing out on the World Cup becomes the motivation he needs to come back stronger.
