Labour Friends of Hong Kong speaks up for freedom, human rights, and respect of the Sino-British Joint Declaration and rule of law in Hong Kong.

🇭🇰 On the eve of today's expected announcement of the planning decision on Beijing's "mega-embassy" application, yesterday evening I asked the Foreign Office Minister whether she shares any of my concerns.

I condemn the unjust and politically motivated prosecution of Jimmy Lai that has resulted in today’s guilty verdict. As the Member of the British Parliament representing Jimmy’s son Sebastien, other members of the family, and a significant Hong Kong community, I have seen firsthand the impact this process has had. The targeting of someone peacefully exercising his rights to freedom of expression undermines the rule of law. Jimmy is now 78 years old and in increasingly poor health. I continue to call for Jimmy’s immediate release and all necessary medical assistance to be provided. I welcome the Foreign Secretary’s statement and urge the Government to do all it can to secure this British citizen’s freedom.

I join the Foreign Secretary in condemning the unjust, politically motivated prosecution of Jimmy Lai. I am proud to represent Hendon's Hong Kong community in Parliament. I know they will be shocked and afraid as a result of today's news. Mr Lai must be released immediately and given access to the medical treatment he needs.

Jimmy Lai’s trial is a travesty of justice which discredits anyone involved with it. Joint statement from 76 lawmakers across 30 countries. 來自30個國家的76位立法者發聲明,重申黎智英的審訊是一場踐踏公義的鬧劇,使該案所有參與者自失其格。

The UK condemns the prosecution of Jimmy Lai and calls for his immediate release. My statement on the verdict today;
