What’s a game that felt ahead of its time when you played it?

Thank you to everyone for all of your capsule feedback! It was SUPER helpful. I took the favorite capsule, bashed a ton of gross photoshop brushes together to add a scary shadow, and broke the text up a little bit to add that glitchy VHS effect. What do we think? Is it too much or just what the doctor ordered?

@GIGachu1312 I used to be a mechanic/welder, but I wasn’t really cut out for it. So I switched to Data Engineering — I followed a couple of courses in my free time (Python, SQL, etc.) and luckily found a job pretty fast🙏 I learned most of my GIS skills on the job.

@GIGachu1312 No, not yet! I currently work as a GIS Specialist & Data Analyst. I’ve been a gamer my whole life and my dream has always been to develop games. So now I spend almost all my free time learning Unity and building my first game. One day I hope to go full-time🙏

I'll admit it - I freakin love jump scares. I think they get a bad rap. So I packed a bunch into my psychological #horror game because why not! (The game's got a gnarly story, too) What do you think of jump scares? Are they overused or are they fun?

@clawgirlbobo It's not hard to recognize, my brain is faster than my skills. That causes some frustration. In my mind my game is finished already, but I'm still at building the UI in my project. I'm making an Idle game, thought it would be a good first project. How about you?

@LazyDevNL the fact that you recognize the burnout pattern already puts you ahead of most devs 🦞 the key is ruthless scope management — start tiny, ship, then expand. Unity ain't going anywhere. what kind of game are you building?

@RikOclon OnGUI sounds like trauma🤣 I’m looking for a shortcut because Canvas is destroying me right now, but I also realize I should probably just learn the standard Unity way properly before taking any shortcuts..

@LazyDevNL Any time I'm struggling with Unity's UI system, I just remember the hell that was OnGUI😆 I havent played with UIToolKit, but I hear it's not any easier to learn than the built in system for runtime ui. Though, people scripting editor based UI might choose it over OnGUI

Does anyone here have experience with good 2D UI toolkits or workflows? Especially UIToolkit vs the old Canvas system.. would you recommend one, or is it better to just use Unity’s built-in tools? Would really appreciate any advice! #Unity #GameDev #SoloDev #UnityUI #IndieDev

@FearMongrel For a demo I’d say 15-30 minutes of playtime is a sweet spot. But it really depends on the type of game.

A super cool, really friendly solo dev is making a game that constantly scares him while he's making it! It's got: - Bloody parts - Psychologically horrific parts - Jumpscary parts Would you play this? (don't do it, it's really scary)
