UPDATE 20:15: An eyewitness tells Your Southend that a young man was running through the High Street holding a “big carving knife”. Matt Purcel said: “I was walking up Southend high street from the seafront. It was packed with teenagers. I got to the university on the high street, saw people running, and at the back of the university on Luker Way, was a young male with others running around him with a big carving knife in his hand. They ran off towards Southend Central. I called 999.”

🚨 Breaking Incident: A police helicopter is currently circling Southend seafront, with reports coming in of “multiplle paramedics and police arriving into Southend on blue lights”. An Air Ambulance has also landed in the city centre in the last 30 minutes. We are hearing of a pub landlord in the city centre having barricaded the doors to protect customers inside from a developing incident. Essex Police had already put a dispersal order in place due to concerns about anti-social behaviour. We will bring you more details on this developing story as we get them.
