I didn’t get the grant on first submission. But I did get a boost to my scholarly confidence from very positive feedback. I’m finally realizing my potential again (haha event-related!) after a few devastating first years on tenure track. Thanks, reviewer #1.

Back in the day - before cell phones - you’d meet a friend at the Eagle at the Wanamaker store by City Hall. Also you’d hang out here if you are a fan of the largest functioning organ in the world. Plus the film Mannequin was filmed here, and everyone had a crush on Kim Cattrall!

@ProfDuff Just a couple more weeks until you get a breather. “Return to campus” has really been the hardest year! The world has changed so much so quickly. We’re going to have to find new ways to connect with our classes. Everyone everywhere just seems so despondent.

In the past I could always get students to engage - but nothing right now. Maybe it is a response to a generalized psychopathy - there is so much malice in discourse that saying anything is burdensome and risky. But I leave class exhausted and disheartened. There is no joy in it.

@LisaPaynePhD I once taught a course on Carl Sagan’s cosmos when @neiltyson came out with the new cosmos, a group of students asked if they could come to class stoned. I said, I can’t stop you! Man whatever they were smoking was kind bud because they were lit as a supernova!

@ProfDuff Walt has seen it all. Despite R announcing that fed funds = no hooch on campus (exact wording of policy ;), I think we will start smelling it often.

@LisaPaynePhD Yes I remember those days. There was shore traffic and discount liquor traffic. I do wonder if we are going to see students smoking a joint on campus - maybe by the recently moved Walt Whitman statue (now in a more discrete location) - he did write Leaves of Grass after all! 😹
