Before the New Testament was written, how did the early Church know which teachings were truly from Christ—and who had the authority to settle disputes?
You’ll say: “They had the apostles.”
Yes—but after the apostles? When false teachers arose, rival gospels circulated, and heresies spread?
You’ll say: “They had the Scriptures.”
Which ones? The canon wasn’t defined until the 4th century—by the Catholic Church.
So here’s the question:
If you trust the Church to give you the right Bible, why do you not trust her to teach it rightly?
You cannot have the canon without the Church that preserved, discerned, and defined it.
To reject her authority while clinging to her canon is not Sola Scriptura.
It’s Sola Pirata.
