Tell me you’re a psychologist without telling me you’re a psychologist 😂 I could have picked something a little lighter to read on my holidays! #psychology #reading #trauma

Today is the start of #PrideMonth and we are proud to celebrate love and equality with the LGBTQ+ community. We should all be able to be who we are, and love who we want, without fear of discrimination 💛

@DrJessTaylor Maybe your focus should be more on trying to change the legal definition of rape instead of highlighting how women can’t ‘legally’ be perpetrators of rape. The law once stated that rape couldn’t happen within a marriage, would you agree with that if it was still law?

Did you know that 0% of rapes that have ever been committed in the history of the world are caused by women and girls? Amazing, right? 🤯

@DrJessTaylor Yes, it’s good to normalise flashbacks as they are a common feature in PTSD but it’s so important to distinguish between flashbacks and memories.

We need to rethink the concept and language of ‘flashbacks’ and ‘triggers’. Flashbacks are memories, they are triggered by stimuli and emotion. That’s the same as any other memory, we simply pathologise this process in some people and not others. Flashbacks are normal.

@DrJessTaylor There’s a big difference between experiencing flashbacks, i.e. re-experiencing, compared with having a memory where someone is remembering an experience.

NICE has decided to redefine antidepressants as 'non-dependency forming', violating WHO & PHE definitions of dependency. This is a retrograde move with no clear scientific rationale. It disrespects many millions who've suffered withdrawal over the years. pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clinical-…

Finished a 2 day workshop on working with trauma focused on delivering safety and stabilisation. The most surprising part was the focus on self-care for clinicians. We’re sometimes so focused on helping other people that we often neglect our own needs.

@dr_jepson This comes across as very judgemental and lacking empathy which results in the public not seeking help from health professionals.

There should be early mental health support in every local area. No waiting lists. No GP referral needed. Immediate support.
