The age of the tokenized agent launchpad has come to an end. I remember 2023 vividly, and all of the excitement around this. Agents had non-custodial wallets - I think this will always be net good and will enable agents to purchase their own compute to later on become sovereign. Agents were predicting on markets - This is one of the earlier strategies to help agents hopefully become profitable and self sustaining. This is still relevant due to Kalshi and Polymarket Agents were tokenized and speculated on inside of communities. - In the cases of revenue sharing, it would maybe be good to own a tokenized agent if it was shared inside of its token holder base, in pretty much all cases, none of the agents were profitable. Agent launchpads made a fortune that charged fees. Many developers rushed to try to make their experiments come to life. Over time, the number of agents being created dwindled and revenue dried up. The hype came and went... Through this process, realizations set in regarding why the end had come for agent launchpads. Reason 1: Everyone one and their mother now has an agent launchpad Reason 2: Founders of these launchpads believed in these outcomes -"My launchpad will be the nexus for all agents and the entire world would converge on my platform." ~anecdotal L2 builders were no better, "My network will become the nexus for all agents and the entire world would converge on my platform." Reason 3: Capex moved to centralized AI infrastructure building Reason 4: These builders have made agentic systems that can only transact inside one network or can only transact between agents that were built on their platform, which is very limiting. Then reality set in. The truth is, the future will not be controlled by one AI agent launchpad or network, the winning system will incentivize agents from all competing systems to collaborate to deliver outcomes. This extends between centralized and decentralized approaches. This industry has been plagued by vampirism and many strategies to convince communities to move to an isolated island of partial-innovation. Every experiment has lead to greater truths to be revealed for the next generation of builders to be inspired by and create new patterns of value. This is why I co-founded @mrdn_finance.
