@Spaceguy5 Yeah that’s not an engineering argument…. You completely fail to recognize the massive success of Falcon 9 which used the same iterative approach. Clearly your comments are based on an emotional/tribal take. We don’t do that in engineering.

@MannyRu99 The methodology they're using does not work. Period. Lots of corners cut. Highest rate of work place injuries in the industry. More than $15b spent (at least $3b of taxpayer money). Years behind schedule. Still doesn't work after 12 flights. It's embarrassing.

This is one of the dumbest takes I've ever seen. The starship test flight didn't even work. Multiple engines failed and it was clear that it under performed again because Max Q was late. Space Shuttle, ISS, Orion, Mars rovers, etc are significantly more spectacular
Peter H. Diamandis, MD@PeterDiamandis

Starship was the greatest thing humanity ever built without AI assistance. It will be the last. Everything after this will be designed with AI. The era of human-only engineering is over.

@thunderf00t I love the defenders who point out none of the ships actually tried to make it to orbit. Like that’s a good thing.

@PebMet1 @JayDook @SpaceX @elonmusk @NASA @ulalaunch Clearly you’re putting blinders on given it’s this exact type of stress testing/break things/iterative design that SpaceX used to make Falcon 9 the worlds only successful reusable rocket at scale which is now the world’s work horse for cargo to space. Not good faith comments Pebmt

@JayDook @SpaceX @elonmusk I do not believe the iterative design method is optimal for space hardware. It appears @NASA , @ulalaunch , Blue Origin can develop their systems without destroying dozens of test vehicles in flight. I remember many here thought Starship would be ahead of SLS and New Glenn.

I'll make this very simple @SpaceX fans. No matter what @elonmusk says, losing your engines on the booster right after separation and losing an engine on Starship in flight is no one else's definition of a success.

@Hare_Beware @mattvanswol @ErinIshimoticha @SpaceX Keep up Hare. Start with researching the % of the world’s cargo going to space carried by SpaceX because their Falcon9 it is the only rocket that is successfully reusable at scale. Starship is next.

No one is saying he should be forced to sell assets. My point is about ultra wealthy individuals who use asset backed loans to create liquidity without selling, which can delay or reduce capital gains tax while the assets continue appreciating. And if they hold those assets until death, step up in basis can allow heirs to reduce or eliminate the built in capital gain for income tax purposes. That’s the issue: wealth can be borrowed against, deferred, compounded, and transferred in ways ordinary wages cannot.

@dr__dwayne @RobGrieves The EuroNCAP active safety testing (w/similarities to NHTSA ADAS cert pass/fail criteria) assigns vehicles a score in which Tesla has consistently demonstrated stellar results relative to most competitors. Surely you recognize this baseline + FSD = unparalleled safety.

@MannyRu99 @RobGrieves The ADAS certification from NHTSA is a new testing criteria for the US. Other cars are not tested using this criteria yet but Tesla won't be the only one. It's been tested in Europe for years now and Tesla isn't the only car capable of it. The US is just behind in this.

This just really isn't a great argument. The general public are only just at the point now where they see EV's as a great purchase. Sure you pay a little more for the car, but it's worth it because you save on fuel and maintenance and people see that now. Saying to people "Ok great, now if you just gave up all those savings, you could have FSD." is not the play. I bought FSD outright in 2019 with the car. It was AU $7,800. That seemed to me like a hell of a lot, but being able to roll it into the car finance made it doable. Once the car is paid off, I can use it as much as I want for free. Having taken advantage of the free transfer once already, I'm now transferring it again to my Model YL. To me, it's felt like a good value purchase. Now if I was doing it all over again today with a $150/month subscription, I can't roll it into my finance and I'll never pay it off. It's just $150/month extra on top of all my other bills and expenses that I already struggle to pay. If I didn't already own FSD, I would not subscribe today. I simply wouldn't be able to justify it, or afford it. And with FSD out of the equation, there's other EVs that stack up well to Tesla for significantly lower prices. When I show people my car, tell them how much it cost and show them how it can drive itself, they're like "Oh! 😯". I then tell them that if you want FSD now you have to pay $150/month on top of the car purchase. Their reaction changes to "Oh... 😐" That pretty much sums up the point of this post. I'm not saying FSD should be free, but current prices do not attract buyers. The value proposition isn't there.

@dr__dwayne @RobGrieves Euro NCAP official tests have consistently rated Teslas in recent years at the top for Safety Assist often (94–98%), ahead of most competitors in equivalent scenarios. So Teslas have indeed been leading the pack in active safety for some time. This is the baseline. Now add FSD.

@dr__dwayne @RobGrieves Compared to average car and older Teslas - yes many times safer. Also latest ADAS certification by NHTSA is thus far a uniquely Tesla feat among all competition.

@dr__dwayne @RobGrieves Would expect a little more research & complete picture commentary from you. Tesla’s active safety features have outperformed the competition at active safety for years per EuroNCAP and NHTSA. AND this baseline is already >double that of Tesla’s w/no active safety features.

@MannyRu99 @RobGrieves Tesla's active safety features are no different to any other modern car. But FSD unsupervised isn't safer than FSD-S or a human driver as can be seen by the crash statistics in Austin. The US average is a 12 year old car.

@dr__dwayne @RobGrieves You compared Teslas with active safety to same with added FSD. Teslas with active safety are already much safer than the average car. Adding supervised FSD according to real-world results (& per your graph) clearly more than doubles this safety. Again priceless.

I have no idea why Tesla hasn't come out with a Tahoe-style SUV. Pair that with FSD and it would be one of the top-selling vehicles in the world.

@DallyDaGreat @LamarMK Your research is skewed. Most truck owners consider cost per mile & efficiency as high priority for practicality. CT is 80mpge. No gas truck comes close even being lighter. CT roughly 1/3 cost per mile to operate. Pitting is not an issue and trim was already fixed.

@LamarMK Not practical as a “truck.” Did lots of research. Super heavy so range is lower than they advertise, worse in the cold and horrible if you’re towing at highway speeds. “Stainless” body pits and “stains” over time and the trim is literally glued on and can fall off while driving.

I don’t understand how someone buys a new gas truck for over $80K and doesn’t at least look at a Cybertruck. You get a truck that’s quicker, packed with tech, drives itself with FSD, costs way less to charge, and still gives you real truck utility. Once you compare what you’re getting for the money, the Cybertruck just makes more sense.

@JonBryant421 Jon did you really say the presence of remote safety drivers excludes these cars from being considered Robotaxis? … after you’ve praised Waymo for yrs who also use remote drvrs? Have you done any reasearch? Your logic & grasp of the industry is exposed once again.
