The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 113 kilometre peg along Harare-Nyamapanda Road on 23/02/26 at around 1700 hours. Three people were killed while four others were injured when a Toyota Hiace kombi with 14 passengers on board overturned before landing on its roof after one of the vehicle’s rear tyres burst. The bodies of the victims were taken to Mutoko Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.

The man in the suit is Augustine Chihuri, former ZRP Commissioner-General (1991–2017). The woman is his wife, Isobel Halima Khan Chihuri. They've been named in long-running corruption probes over diverted police funds and properties, with recent court updates in Feb 2026. The printed photos and document snippet seem pulled from case files or old records.

The ZRP advises the public that the police has not issued any statement concerning Joachim Chivayo or any member of Chivayo family. The statement circulating on social media is therefore fake and false. It has nothing to do with the ZRP. The law will take its course on individuals or groups spreading false information and committing criminal acts by issuing false statements.

The Chief Murinye issue with businessman Philimon Mutangiri is disturbing as it reveals the depths to which we are falling as a country in terms of respecting our own cultural values. Mambo haatukwe and in the case where one has an issue with him there are ways to deal with the matter and not offensive and vulgur insults. Zimbabwe is a special country which has very strong cultural values and ethics. There are certain boundaries which we never get to cross and insulting a Chief is one of them. As the President of the Zimbabwe Village Heads Association (ZIVHA) and on behalf of other traditional leaders we will never accept such vulgur behaviour against a traditional leader. It's unfortunate that we have parents who are supporting a school leader who exhibits such atrocious behaviour. It already foretells the environment into which your kids are going and the kind of people they will grow into. Even if the Chief was wrong there was no room for such and action should be taken against Mutangiri. It is very ironic that someone who has built illegal structures which are not recognised by the relevant RDC or Ministry department has the attitude to insult and attack a Chief who is merely defending his community. Some of the issues Mutangiri cited, such as installation of power and roads are social corporate responsibilities which don't bequeath him any special rights for wanton behaviour! His school is criminal evidence which should drag in the Ministry and RDC how it came to be operating yet without relevant papers. For such projects in rural areas the law is clear. For communal land, there should be a letter of no objection from the responsible Headman or Chief, in addition to the RDC permit while documents showing community consent absence of land disputes must be attached to the EDIA form. None of this was ever done. Yet the same people who lament about corruption in the country want to defend him today. It shows how we are not sincere about some of the issues we lament about. Mutangiri must first regularise his business instead of attacking the Chief whose concerns are very valid.
