@Loanda57108024 @AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Hi Loanda! I agree, "number talk" has many benefits. It provides students the opportunity to self-correct and identify any mistakes they have made when explaining how they solved the math problem. It also gives students the opportunity to think about and analyze their strategy.

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Student participation in "Number Talk" offers quite a few benefits. Students get to orally explain their thinking and analyze each step on how they solved the math problem. While explaining they also get to self-correct themselves if they've identified a mistake. #EDEL5200 #KTR

@yasmin53709968 @AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Yasmin, I agree. Many students self-confidence decreases when they are unable to memorize math facts compared to their peers that can. Students definitely become stressed when taking timed test because they know they have a short time to complete the problems.

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler The memorization of math facts is unnecessary and damaging because students may develop anxiety. It can also decrease the self confidence of students in math. The timed tests can also cause students to become stressed.

@Julissa28631388 @AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Julissa, I agree with speed and time being a reason for math anxiety. It can make it especially difficult for students who are struggling with the material in general and having that added pressure of the time limit definitely brings anxiety. #KTR #EDEL5200

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Some of the reasons for math anxiety are the focus on speed and memorization for math facts as well as having timed tests. The focus on speed causes a great deal of stress on many students which results in an anxious feeling toward math in general. #KTR #EDEL5200

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Number talks allow students to walk the teacher and students through their thought process. The student takes the teacher role. It allows them to find their mistakes and is a fun activity to learn math. Students learn new strategies they may not have thought of. #EDEL5200 #KTR

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Timed test are a reason for math anxiety. Having a limitation on time to complete an exam gives students and adults stress and pressure. Having a time limit to complete a math test limits our thought process. It's not enough time, which limits the strategies we use. #EDEL5200#KTR

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Memorization of math facts are "unnecessary and damaging," because it gives students the idea math facts memorization is what makes one a strong math student and gives them the impression that having math facts memorized is the essence of math.#EDEL5200 #KTR #fluencywithoutfear

@teachsci8 @teachsci8 #CSUBEDTE4200 #CSUBTED A4: Rather than having them consume technology & have them produce, students can use different beneficial apps such as @Flipgrid to complete different assignments. This way students collaborate & allows them to view each other’s input/knowledge

@tom_karnes My fav. Experience was in 3rd grade making a class yearbook, i love the fact that we wrote wat we wanted to be when we got older and took pics n the bond was there. Technology would make it less interesting in my opinion #CSUBEDTE4200 #csubted @JediTeacher08
