Both Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox claim to be the "one true Church" with apostolic succession on their side. Both ask: "Would the Holy Spirit allow the Church to fall into error for 1500 years?" My answer: Yeah, I think He would - Just the same as Israel was allowed to fall into error time and time again. The fact that the 2 split in 1054 and both claim exclusive fidelity to the apostles means, logically, at least one of them has been wrong for nearly 1,000 years. They can't both be right. This should motivate Protestants to dig into Scripture and church history. One (or both) of these institutions has error on important points. Scripture, being God's Word, is our anchor for everything. This is not the strawman of "every Christian for 1500 years went to hell before Martin Luther came along." Christ has always saved His people by grace through faith - even when the visible institutions went off the rails.

Roman Catholics often falsely claim that the Nicene Creed destroys Baptist or Protestant theology. However, historic Protestants confess the Nicene Creed in worship services. The fact is that this comment is reading later Roman Catholic categories back into the fourth century anachronistically. “One baptism for the forgiveness of sins” is biblical language. Protestants do not deny that baptism is connected to forgiveness, repentance, union with Christ, and entrance into the visible church. We deny that the outward rite saves apart from faith, or that the Nicene phrase requires the later Roman Catholic sacramental system. “One holy catholic and apostolic church” also does not mean “the modern Roman Catholic Church under the papacy.” The word catholic means universal. The church is one because it is united to one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one Spirit. It is apostolic because it is founded on the apostolic gospel, preserved in the apostolic Scriptures. As for apostolic succession, Protestants reject the claim that succession is merely an unbroken line of bishops. True apostolicity is fidelity to apostolic doctrine; which all historic confessions accept as the word of God as contained in Holy Scripture. So no, the Nicene Creed does not destroy Protestant theology. It destroys anti-Trinitarian, anti-incarnational, and non-Christian theology. That is why confessional Protestants gladly confess it.

@rickbrennanjr The Nicene Creed destroys Baptist and Protestant theology. One Baptism for the forgiveness of sins Acts 2:38 - ONE (not thousands) holy Catholic and apostolic Church, not one Prot has apostolic succession. The "Catholic church" and the doctrines of this church are not prot.

You have a loving Muslim neighbour who always greets you with a smile. Your best friends are peaceful Muslims. Your Muslim family wouldn’t hurt a fly. Your colleagues are disciplined, focused, hardworking Muslims doing well at their jobs. Every single Muslim you’ve actually met in real life is an amazing soul. Yet deep down, you still believe Muslims are wicked and dangerous because you saw something on the internet about Afghanistan or Syria. You nurture that hate every day, even though your own personal experience proves the opposite. Be honest, isn’t that a sign of cognitive dissonance?

When I was Muslim, man, this verse used to mess me up. Jesus on the cross saying, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” As a Muslim, I used to think: how does God feel forsaken by God? That sounds like weakness. That sounds like a prophet in pain. But then I dug deeper. And I realized Jesus was not speaking randomly. He was quoting Psalm 22. That entire Psalm, written by King David centuries before Christ, is a prophecy about the crucifixion: “They pierce my hands and feet.” “They divide my garments among them.” “All who see me mock me.” In Jewish culture, quoting the first line of a Psalm pointed people to the entire passage. So Jesus was not crying out in confusion. He was declaring fulfillment. He was saying: “This is that.” And at the same time, He was carrying the full weight of sin, shame, abandonment, and suffering for humanity. Every moment humanity has cried out, “God, where are you?” Christ stepped into that pain Himself. That is not weakness. That is intentional. That is prophecy unfolding in real time. That is the King bleeding on purpose so humanity could be brought near to God. That is the Gospel.

It’s been 50 years since this photo was taken. Palestinian terrorists invaded the Lebanese Christian town of Damour and massacred 582 Christian civilians. It was an apocalypse, said a priest who survived the massacre. “They were coming in thousands, shouting ‘Allahu Akbar! Let us attack them for the Arabs, let us offer a holocaust to Mohammad.’ They were slaughtering everyone, men, women and children.” Men were lined up against the walls of their homes and gunned down. Women were tortured and gang-raped. Babies were shot in the back of the head. Pregnant women had their babies cut out of the womb. Just one of the many massacres committed against Christians by Palestinians. This is how Muslims became the majority in Lebanon.

@farmingandJesus Each independent Baptist Church with its own independent self appointed BISHOP and in fact POPE - EACH CHURCH is in fact their own “denomination” It’s not a lie, it’s fact based on you can’t call yourself a POPE and unaccountable without being your own “one true Church”

Protestant apologetics is just a circus of ignorant and dishonest people confidently misleading audiences that don’t know enough history or theology to catch the deception. A shocking amount of Protestant apologetics is built on the assumption that the audience will never fact-check them. If you removed historical ignorance from Protestant polemics, half of the online “influencers” would disappear overnight.

Serious question If every Christian can privately interpret scripture however they want, why are there thousands of denominations all claiming the Holy Spirit led them to different conclusions? Wouldnt truth produce unity instead of contradiction?
