Venezuelan media outlet TalCual analyzed acting President Delcy Rodríguez’s official speeches and statements from January 5, 2026, when she assumed office, until April 30, 2026, and found that “In just four months, mentions of Nicolás Maduro in Rodriguez’s speeches fell 91%, going from 86 references in January to just eight in April.” ■ TalCual also noted that, while initially Rodríguez referred to Maduro “victim of kidnapping” by external forces, using terms like “hostage,” “prisoner of war,” and “kidnapped,” as well as “exalting his figure” by referring to him as “our hero,” “this trend changed in February, when mentions dropped to 15,” and Rodríguez began only referring “to him by his position” as President, and abandoning terminology as “hostage” and “prisoner of war” while still referring to him as “kidnapped.” ■ Then, “In March, with a mere seven mentions, Nicolás Maduro practically vanished from official discourse,” and “This discursive irrelevance persisted the following month: Delcy Rodríguez referred to Maduro directly on eight occasions in April, primarily using his title to reference his governmental actions or her professional relationship with him. During those months, she did not portray him as a victim of kidnapping, nor as a hero, simply as a government official.
