The hell of Irpin — what russian occupation looks like. 33-year-old Maksym Gurinov and his wife Yana were a young, loving couple — shy, kind, always smiling, always together. In March 2022, they tried to evacuate their six-month-old daughter Daryna from Irpin. The first attempt failed. They came under russian fire and turned back. A horrifying account from 18yo Ivan who helped digging out a women after a russian missile strike on her home in Kyiv yesterday, reported by Suspilne. "I held her leg so she would know she wasn't alone." The world needs to read it. When 18yo Ivan heard a missile approaching, he only had time to cover his ears before a powerful explosion went off. He ran to the balcony to see where it had struck. Seeing a column of smoke and fire, he realized it was the building where his friends and acquaintances lived. Ivan and his father rushed to get dressed and ran there. When they arrived, rescuers and a small group of volunteers were already working at the site. "...I climbed onto the rubble myself," Ivan recalls. "There was fire and smoke everywhere. First, I helped a police officer bring down a woman with a disability - she couldn't walk, and he was carrying her in his arms. Then I went back onto the rubble and heard a terrible scream from a woman near a rescuer." Ivan and the rescuer began digging her out. They threw aside a washing machine packed with concrete and debris. "Everyone here, everyone here!" they shouted, and more rescuers rushed over. "We kept digging and digging and made a small hole," Ivan continues. "We uncovered the right leg - a thin, woman's leg. At that moment it became very hard to breathe because firefighters were still putting out the flames and smoke was blowing right at us. We were on our knees, just digging and digging. You couldn't see anything, your eyes were burning. The woman kept screaming, 'I can't, I can't.' The rescuer told me to talk to her, to shout to her. We uncovered both legs and her right arm, but couldn't go further because she was trapped under a concrete slab. I held her leg so she would know she wasn't alone. As I kept digging, I started crying. A police officer came up to me and said, 'That's enough, step back.'" Ivan stepped aside and saw that more rescuers and medics had arrived by that time. They continued breaking through the concrete slab to free the woman. She was alive and was taken to the hospital. The attack killed 24, incl 3 children, 48 were injured.
