Myself and @SelmaAbed5 collaborated with an ICB to focus on DOACs for AF patients. We reviewed medications for 3489 patients. This led to improved care for 1224 individuals, including adjustments, discontinuation, or additional monitoring. (1/2) integratedcarejournal.com/optimising-doa…

Great blog from @MM_MaheshMistry We need to make savings, but it's Save to Invest. Often, savings disappear into the system black hole, so patient care doesn't improve. It has to be about the whole pathway, so everyone across the system has a part to play. bit.ly/4i7y9dr

Attending the PPP wound care conference today. Excited to see what the future could look like for people of all needs and backgrounds. One thing is for sure, it needs a systemwide approach involving all professionals from GP, and pharmacy through to specialist services.

I may sound like a broken record, but collaboration can unlock opportunities for better patient outcomes. It's great to be a part of this @Policy_Projects and @SpiritMedsOp report, I can't wait to see what you think of the report and the recommendations outlined. Give it a read.

Apixaban is now the preferred choice of DOAC for AFib for @NHSGGC. Apixaban used to be the medicine that was switched out, but now it's gone generic so prices have fallen meaning it's now the cheapest!
Medicines Update@NHSGGCMeds

📢Did you see the March 2024 Formulary update? Drugs mentioned include Capsaicin, Estriol cream 0.1% and Apixaban. Check it out at the following link: ggcmedicines.org.uk/blog/formulary… #PatientSafety #FormularyUpdate #NHSGGCStaff @NHSGGC

Fantastic day at Leicestershire Football Club. It was great to get really stuck in and network with people across the divisions. Can't wait to work on the actionable insights touched upon throughout the day.
Spirit Medicines Optimisation@SpiritMedsOp

This week, we had Spiritfest in #Leicester! 🌟 It was a great opportunity to see what each division is up to and how we can conquer our shared challenges by putting our heads together to brainstorm solutions. We also celebrated our company wins and set sights on our future.🚀

The NHS Operating Plan 2024-25 is live! Interesting targets and aspirational KPIs. But how can they be met? The systems need to provide the resources (not just £££) to achieve them. This is a big challenge for stretched ICBs. Then there's CORE20PLUS5... england.nhs.uk/publication/pr…

This programme also identified cost-saving opportunities! We found 32% of patients could potentially benefit from a more cost-effective DOAC medication. A great example of collaboration between primary & secondary care - working together for better patient outcomes. (2/2)

(2/2) It needs credible social policies from the government to help people out of poverty, as much as providing appropriate NHS services at the right time. Local teams can then address the specific needs of their communities, in my view. #actionableinsights

(3/3) Is QOF past its prime? Maybe. But, we need something to reward practices that deliver consistent care! Neighbourhood flexibility to invest in local needs could be the answer. It's going to be an interesting few weeks ahead!

(2/3) Adding fuel to the fire: the QOF consultation & the Royal College's suggestion to slash indicators - cut from 76 to 5! While reducing admin burden is good, QOF has driven consistent care for patients.

A short thread on the GP contract 2024/25 🧵 (1/3) I'm fascinated and concerned by the GP contract talks! The government's 2% uplift for 2024/25 feels low. What will the BMA referendum results show?

Building on and sharing local innovation is key to progress, in my opinion. We mustn't lose sight of the here and now...working on system-wide medicines optimisation is needed to generate the savings to invest in other developments. (3/4)
