Even journalists went missing after venturing into ChinKuki infested areas! No one knows what happened to Atom Samarendra Singh and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh. They were one of the Meitei victims to disappear after ChinKukis took them hostage on 6 May 2023. The two journalists had driven to the Saheibung area, adjacent to the Manipur Olympic Park, bordering the foothills of Kangpokpi district. Their cellphones were switched off after they went missing. Till date, they are untraceable and are assumed to be dead. In the absence of the dead body, the last rites of Atom Samarendra Singh and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh were performed with "Pangong" tree plank as per customary practice.
