I love Tokyo Mew Mew so much! I also love the color Pink, as well as cute and sparkly things

@bfredmuggs How the heck is Cartoon Network too edgy!? Weren't the shows on there wholesome? They aired Hamtaro and that is one of the most wholesome shows out there!

Not sure the year this was pitched, but CN realized on more than one occasion that pre-schoolers were not coming to the network. Parents just found CN to be too edgy. They didn’t consider us safe the way they thought of Nickelodeon.
ToonHive@ToonHive

C.H. Greenblatt revealed Cartoon Network once considered a preschool ‘Chowder’ reboot, but the network “had no money to make it.” The spin-off would’ve followed Chowder, Panini and Gorgonzola attending culinary school, with familiar characters returning as faculty members.

@ECCReanimated I hope this doesn't sound weird, but Tutenstein was a show that rewarded its viewers for paying attention.

I’m currently working on dozens of Tutenstein GIFs to increase its cultural footprint, shelf life and quotability. I loved watching that Discovery Kids animated series. “I am all that is!”

@ECCReanimated Awesome. I loved those shows too. Tutenstein was really special for actually being dedicated to teaching kids about ancient Egypt and it was done in a way where it didn't feel like an educational show, but if you pay attention to the dialogue, you learn Egypt facts.

@gremnda It was basically the only cartoon out there that dedicated itself to teaching about ancient Egyptian culture. It also did it in a subtle enough way it didn't seem educational, but it was rewarding when one paid attention.

Sailor Moon literally had edutainment games aimed to teach the Japanese equivalent of the ABC’s & was heavily featured in a popular kids magazine called “Fun Kindergarten”. Winx had official costumes for 4-6 year olds. W.I.T.C.H had clothing for 5-8 years olds. Tweens are 9-12.

Ok ppl using Pre Cure as an example are missing one little detail. Pre cure is mainly targeted to a demographic that's pre-school/elementary. Sailor Moon, W.I.T.CH. and Winx Club are targeted towards tweets, teens and young adults so they face more criticism.

@ManiiMade I'm usually bad at paying attention to stuff aside from PBS, Nick Jr, and Playhouse Disney/Disney Junior shows.

@ManiiMade I still find it weird how people think this. I'm not sure why, but Tokyo Mew Mew is a lot easier for me to pay attention to than these 3. I think Mew Mew just has a younger vibe to me in terms of instinct, even though all of them are for young girls and likely same demo.

@Lyconaru It's especially weird that people find certain magical girl shows not for kids because of some dark moments, because I can name plenty of american kids cartoons that got dark and nobody says those aren't for ages 6-11 and some of those could debatably be darker than them.

@MewPrincess2000 The intent was specifically for young ages, it's why there's a lot of jokes about magical girl shows being like walking toy commercials, shows like Super sentai and Kamen Rider are the same, that doesn't even make them bad everybody can enjoy them!

@Lyconaru Admittedly, ever since I watched Tokyo Mew Mew (my first magical girl series), I always had this gut instinct that they were for very young kids, but I know if I said that, people would think I was crazy.

@Lyconaru That makes sense. That explains why I love Precure and Ojamajo Doremi. I tend to mostly just love preschool shows since that's what keeps my attention.

@alphaserendipi I noticed you're a huge PBS Kids fan. I admit I still love PBS Kids even though I'm 25. I've been wanting to embrace this aspect of myself. Most of the shows I love are PBS Kids, Nick Jr and Playhouse Disney/Disney Junior, with Precure and Mew Mew as exceptions.

@feltwelt78 I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that even though SpongeBob has a lot of dialogue, its a storyboard driven show, meaning the visuals do help drive the story a lot. It's very visual based in a lot of ways.

SpongeBob’s global success is more interesting when you compare it to other universally beloved cartoons like Tom and Jerry, the Pink Panther or Shaun the Sheep. SpongeBob like these is popular in most countries but SB is the only one with extensive dialogue.

@t_unmasked It's weird how Sailor Moon is often considered a teens show when not only is it not a teens show, but america had dark kids shows like Batman: The Animated Series, Courage the Cowardly Dog, X-Men and Gargoyles. Everyone agrees those are kids shows, so its weird they dont for SM.

The Sailor Moon anime was for preschool and elementary school kids. Not sure how many times I need to say this. Just look at the toys for proof. They even sold kids curry
FlameHino@SailorMarsN1fan

"Why do people criticize the DiC dub of Sailor Moon but not the English dub of Pokémon?" Because the difference is that Pokémon, being an anime for kids, justifies the cheesy and silly dialogue. In contrast, Sailor Moon isn't for kids; it's for teenagers.
