In Atlanta, a lawn care crew found a disabled veteran’s home buried under 2 feet of weeds. His HOA had been fining him $50 daily for the unkempt yard.
The team offered to mow and clean the entire property for free. As they worked, the HOA president called police, claiming the volunteers needed a vendor permit and were trespassing.
Officers arrived, heard the full story, told the HOA to stand down, and let the crew finish. The yard was fully transformed — a clear win for kindness over bureaucracy.

Expect alternating traffic on SR 9 at the Snohomish/Skagit County line (MP 37) with flaggers today for maintenance work. This work is expected to wrap up around 4p this afternoon and is happening all this week.

CLEARED: The incident that led to the closure of SR 9 north of Sedro-Woolley has now been resolved. All lanes are back open.

UPDATE: Both directions of SR 9 remain closed north of Sedro-Woolley at MP 59. A detour has been set up between Bassett Rd (MP 58) and Mosier Rd (MP 59). Continue to expect delays in this area.

UPDATE 4/13: We tested all the rock dowels - and they passed - and placed our last anchor to stabilize the slope. We continue hauling debris around the clock and cleaning-up and checking the site.
NB I-5 remains closed at exit 246 until 5a Thurs (3/16), pending inspection.

UPDATE 4/12: Crews dislodged a large, loose slab on the west end of the slide area during Sunday's rolling slowdowns on SB I-5. The area now needs to be anchored in three places. Debris clearing continues around the clock. NB I-5 remains closed at exit 246 until 5a Thurs (4/16).

We do not have an estimate when lanes will reopen. Alternate routes include SR 9 & SR 11, but SR 11 and local roads are not suitable for freight.
We understand this is frustrating. We are focusing on doing this precise, methodical work as safely and quickly as we can.

UPDATE 3PM: Aerial views, courtesy of Finn Wendt at the Cascadia Daily News, show the scale of the slide south of Bellingham. At least one of the rocks is bigger than a bus.
NB I-5 remains closed, movement on the slope prevents crews from safely beginning cleanup.

UPDATE 8:30AM: Crews just sent these photos of NB I-5 south of Bellingham where all lanes remain closed due to slide activity. Geotechs will be on site this AM. Roughly 2-3000 cubic yards of material is blocking the road. For context, the avg. WSDOT dump truck carries 16 yards.
