A Labour MP owning 15 rental properties tells you all you need to know about Labour values. @mrjamesob was asking about Labour values the other day, and here we have it. If you voted Tory in the 90s and 00s you'll be absolutely fine with @Keir_Starmer 's @UKLabour

Jas Athwal MP is a landlord with FIFTEEN properties. Complaints about toxic mould were ignored. One of his tenants was threatened with eviction by an estate agent for complaining. Athwal said he doesn't rent to people who receive benefits, which is unlawful. He must resign.

Congratulations to tenants on the Locton estate, whose persistence has forced Clarion Housing Group to admit its estimated £18.89 a week service charge in '24/25 should actually have been £5.56. Its disgraceful that neither the Regulator nor the Housing Ombudsman are helping them

This is typical of @MetTVH - they literally do not care whether their tenants live or die, so a broken lift is very small beer indeed to them. @SHAC_Action

Taking your landlord to court can be challenging, especially when it's so hard to get legal representation. The process can seem confusing and intimidating. Our First Tier Tribunals workshop aims to unpick the process with clear tips on how to prepare and what to expect. tinyurl.com/ShacFTTs Open to all but best if you can register with SHAC to be advised of any changes and get the handouts directly - shaction.org/shac-registrat…

@Keir_Starmer Bit vague, eh? Change to what? We have no idea what you stand for, and you have reneged on every pledge you ever made. It's not enough to say "NO" to the tories. We need to know what a "YES" to Labour will mean for us. And that is not at all clear.....

Do you want five more years of the same? Or do you want change? Change will only happen if you vote for it. Vote Labour Thursday 4 July.

Hey, @crisis_uk If you'd spoken to any MTVH tenants, you'd know that appointing their ex-CEO Geeta Nanda to your board is a terrible idea. (I'd tag her, but she left twitter rather than engage with residents on a public platform) insidehousing.co.uk/news/mtvh-boss…

Today we remember the 72 men, women and children taken from us at Grenfell Tower 7 years ago. With time, those responsible hope we will all forget. Join us this evening at the Notting Hill Methodist Church at 6pm to show them we won’t 💚

I’m not sure the Labour manifesto matters all that much. Keir Starmer has reneged on every pledge he made from his leadership campaign onwards, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t do the same when he gets to no. 10.

I'm a working class person, and if @Keir_Starmer's @UKLabour is a natural home for Tories like Natalie Elphicke, it's not a natural home for me. And I'm as convinced as I need to be that Keir Starmer's Labour couldn't give less of a s*** about that.

The piece addresses the factors driving landlords to financially exploit tenants & residents leading to service charge abuse. If you believe this needs to be debated in Parliament, you need to sign the petition. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/6596… #EndServiceChargeAbuse

Thanks @housingsector for this excellent piece on the flawed economic model for delivering public housing: "the long-term sustainability of relying heavily on property sales remains questionable. The risk of being unable to offload properties quickly or at desired prices looms large". And also a nuanced exploration of rent and service charge strikes.

I just completed my postal ballot for the mayoral and London Assembly elections. Count Binface and Rejoin EU, in case you were wondering. They’re no more or less ridiculous than any of the other candidates.

@LostInSW19 @LDN_pressoffice In true politician style @SadiqKhan only comes out in favour of tenants when it’s safe for him to do so. He knew about service charge problems years ago, but turned a blind eye because it was expedient. He’s as untrustworthy and self interested as all the rest.

But you don't want to monitor compliance with your *own* service charge "charter" in London. You chose to let the registered providers you fund off the hook. Turning off replies? Refusing debate ahead of an election? Not good enough @LDN_pressoffice
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

Many leaseholders are being ripped off by extortionate service charges. I’m calling for new powers for leaseholders to withhold payments unless increases are justified properly in writing. #Echobox=1714214946" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

@MetTVH Housing Associations are out of control as it is. They have done untold damage to housing in England and should stop trying to muscle in on housing policy going forward.

The housing crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time and CASE’s report exposes the scale of the challenge the next government will face. With a structural deficit of 1.2 million new homes over the next 10 years, 830,000 of which are social rent, now is the time for our politicians to show they are serious about tackling this crisis head on. The report recommends: • Reintroducing supply targets. • Tenure sub targets to increase the supply of social and affordable homes. • Higher grant funding to go beyond replacement and help to increase the provision of social and affordable housing. • Support for shared ownership. • A review of the social rent formula. As the general election approaches, housing promises to be a key issue for voters as they head to the polls. With the notion of a secure, affordable home feels as distant as ever for millions of people the next government must follow the recommendations outlined in this report and work across government, the housing sector and local authorities to deliver the homes we as a nation need. We cannot afford not to. By adopting CASE’s recommendations, our politicians can show that they share our ambition of the chance for everyone to have a decent, affordable home and to live well.
