America’s hypocrisy on full display. In November, the Trump administration designated antifa—a loose movement whose very name literally means anti-fascist—as a terrorist organization. Meanwhile, the Ku Klux Klan, founded in 1865, has spent more than 160 years lynching Black people, terrorizing communities, burning homes and churches, assassinating elected officials, and violently opposing democracy itself. Tens of thousands of Black lives lost. Countless acts of domestic terror. An ideology rooted in white supremacy and racial apartheid. And yet the KKK has never been designated a terrorist organization. In fact, it operates as a tax-exempt nonprofit under U.S. law. Let that sink in. An explicitly racist, violent, historically documented domestic terror network gets legal protection and tax benefits, while an anti-fascist movement gets labeled “terrorist.” That’s not about public safety. That’s not about law and order. That’s about who the American system protects—and who it punishes. When white supremacy gets a nonprofit status and anti-fascism gets criminalized, the problem isn’t extremism. The problem is America’s moral compass. And Black people have always known exactly which way it points.
