@GovBillLee , alongside the Tennessee Department of Transportation and @TNVacation , unveiled the first installation of the state’s new “Welcome to Tennessee” signage program, beginning with a dedicated photo-op sign at the I-26 Unicoi County Welcome Center in Erwin. TDOT will begin installing new roadside gateway signs at 16 interstate entry points over the coming months. These signs will replace the existing welcome signs, with installation occurring in phases as fabrication and site scheduling are completed.

HAMILTON COUNTY: I-75 is closed in both directions at MM 14 due to a tractor trailer fire. @myTDOT is en route to assist with traffic control. Avoid the area if possible.

Earlier today, TDOT HELP operator Chester Hembree responded to a highway distress call on I-40 EB in Knox County. As he approached the vehicle, he heard over the radio it was a woman in labor. He was the first responder on the scene. The woman had just delivered the baby as he walked up to the vehicle. He asked her if the baby had cried and she said no. Hembree helped clear the baby's airway and got the child to cry and breath regularly. KPD and EMTs arrived soon after and transported mom and baby to the hospital. Both were in stable condition. Launched in 1999 and expanded this year to serve rural interstates, the TDOT HELP and Rural Service Patrol programs patrol Tennessee's interstates responding to distressed motorists.

UPDATE (4:30p): Crews are preparing to close 65S to 40E to back both trucks off of I-40.

DAVIDSON CO: I-40 EB at mm 209 is down to one lane after an oversized load struck the Broadway Bridge. A second oversized load is behind this one; both must be backed up I-40 to get to I-65 in order to go around downtown. (1/2)
