@britishlibrary Ruth Prawer was a German Jew, who witnessed #Kristallnacht. Her father Marcus moved to Germany from Poland. Her mother Eleanora's father was cantor of Cologne's main synagogue. In 1939 the family escaped to London and lived in #Hendon. Ruth attended @Hendon_School and @QMUL.

Born in Cologne, Ruth arrived as a refugee to Britain in 1939 but spent almost equal periods of her life in England, Delhi & New York. Throughout her career she produced 12 novels, 8 volumes of short stories and 25 screenplays. Her fiction crosses boundaries of culture and place.
