🚀 How good are Large Language Models on African Languages? We compared the performance of different LLMs (mT0, LLaMa 2, GPT-4) on 30 African languages. Our evaluation shows that GPT-4 gave impressive results on simple tasks like classification but struggles on more difficult generative tasks like Question Answering and Machine Translation. Surprisingly, we found mt0-13b-xxl-mt excelling on these difficult tasks, including beating the SOTA on QA. arxiv.org/abs/2311.07978
