Literary update: Just signed a contract with Cambridge UP for a new book on David Ben-Gurion’s political thought. Hoping the book will be out in early 2027. (Image: Grok rendering of the Old Man reading Thucydides in Greek.)

Erdoğan spoke with Trump on May 20. The very next day, he ramped up efforts to solidify his dictatorship. Now the two are exchanging grotesquely absurd praise. This bonding is disastrous for Turkey, the US, and the world.

In this month's essay, @HeTows uses data to explain that the immigration/emigration debate in Israel is missing the point: birth rates matter more than either one. @NeilRogachevsky argues that aliyah still matters for the future of Israel. ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/essays/…

"Due in part to Ben-Gurion’s crusading, the term Zionism became derogatory in the Israel of the 50s/60s: “Zionism” meant empty chatter, the elevation of talk or right-thinking over action."

Annual Jerusalem Day post. My translation of Menachem Begin’s great speech, “We Were All Born in Jerusalem” (1972). Begin’s liberal national thinking deserves continued consideration and recovery.

On elite campuses, many students don’t know what the Ten Commandments are, or the difference between the Old and New testaments. Religious illiteracy is hurting higher ed, Princeton professor Greg Conti warns: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

The U.S. is demanding the handover of *all* of Iran's enriched nuclear material. Not merely the 60% and not merely the 20%. All of it--and that's a red line. More in tonight's WSJ editorial: wsj.com/opinion/iran-d…

Lord Palmerston blockaded Greek ports for the sake of one British Jew. Keir Starmer, facing twenty Iranian-linked attacks on British soil, won't call them acts of war. @charlieladerman on what Britain has forgotten about protecting its citizens. ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/picks/i…

A lot of people treat Dugin as some kind of "fascinating thinker" when much of what he does is recycle Third-Worldist resentment into grand civilizational language. A few references, a few mystical concepts here and there, and suddenly anti-Western grievance gets repackaged as "profound" geopolitical theory
Alexander Dugin@AGDugin

To be on the side of Russia, of Iran, of China, of multipolarity is to be on the side of the being against the non-being. The (post)modern West is the citadel of the non-being, of nihilism.

"Terror group officials belatedly concede accuracy of Israeli casualty reports" - again
Elizabeth Tsurkov@LizHurra

2 Hezbollah officials tell Reuters that "several thousand" Hezbollah militiamen have been killed in the current round fighting, "though the group does not have the full picture yet" reuters.com/world/asia-pac… The last Israeli assessment, released on April 19, was that the Israeli Army had killed 1,800 Hezbollah militiamen. In the 2024 war, Hezbollah lost 5,000 fighters according to a speech by Naim Qassem in August 2025, in which he also stated that 13,000 militiamen were wounded in that war. Prior to this, about 2,000 Hezbollah militiamen were killed in Iran's failed attempt to keep Assad in power. Sustaining this level of losses, while also losing three wars against Syria's rebellion and Israel, would not have been possible without Hezbollah's educational, religious and media institutions. For 40+ years, these institutions indoctrinated generations of Lebanon's Shia that a cleric in Tehran has the right to obligate them (تكليف شرعي) to kill and die for him, and that death for him will bring them and their relatives to heaven (as the martyr is a "mediator" شفيع for his loved-ones with God). This represents a profound tragedy for Lebanon’s Shia community. A minority community numbering roughly one million people has been converted into a factory of cannon fodder for Iran's regional wars.

I want to stress British Jews are super concentrated in NW London. there are only 250k of us. Roughly around 100k of us live in this area and surrounding areas. It’s like a small town that’s now under sustained attack. This is the heart of the community and every connected Jew across the country will ties, friends, family here. It’s not felt like disjointed and episodic attacks but like small town the size of Worcester is under attack by an IRGC-cut out.
