📍IGAD at the Global Refugee Forum Review
🗓️15 - 17 December 2025
The Director, Health and Social Development, Amb. Moussa @Meigague is leading the @IGADsecretariat team to the Global #RefugeeForum Progress Review, in Geneva, Switzerland
The event builds on stocktaking efforts at the country, regional, and global levels, to maintain momentum and assess progress against the implementation of the pledges made at the Global Refugee Forum (GRF) towards the advancement of the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and also outline next steps in the lead up to the GRF in 2027.
Under the #IGADSupportPlatform on Forced Displacement, IGAD introduced regional pledges on solutions and climate action at the 2023 GRF. IGAD is also a co-convenor of the 2023 Global Pledge on Economic Inclusion and Social Protection.

📍Checked in at the Urban Refugee Working Group meeting as secretariat to @LcaUganda ! Officially opened with remarks from @OPMUganda & @KCCAUG . Key issues raised include:
The need for actors to report into the UNHCR-coordinated reporting system.
The rising malnutrition situation, especially in Kampala and among urban refugees, as emphasized by Office of the Prime Minister.
The need to contribute towards a functional and inclusive city.
Excited to play our part in contributing to a coordinated refugee programming in Uganda.

In Uganda 🇺🇬 , 6 out of 10 school girls miss classes due to menstruation, with a disproportionate number being forcibly displaced girls. This neglect has led to alarming rates of school dropouts and teenage pregnancies.

Vicky Adokorachi: I left South Sudan because of the war that was there, whereby you would find that the vulnerable had been killed, and houses burnt.
You would also find rebels moving within the community.

Vicky Adokorachi: According to the traumas we experienced, the UN really did its best. Immediately when you arrive, they welcome you and treat you as human.

Sumaya Awil Mohamed: I don't remember much. I left my home country at a young age. At the age of ten, we fled the lands of Kismayo to Uganda seeking refuge.
Back home, it was war, conflict, rape, and more.

Noella Kabale: I came to realize that there's nothing to expect from war, because war only creates more war.
War doesn't make people; war destroys people.
