Today, our Special Constable recruit class received instruction from Training Officer - Constable Jason Brown about handcuffing techniques and prisoner management. Maintaining proper care and control of individuals in police custody is essential to protect both the detainee and law enforcement officers. Under the Community Safety and Policing Act, Special Constables are sworn peace officers with limited police authority, who serve vital functions within police organizations, including: • Prisoner care, control, and transportation between custody facilities • Court security • Crime scene security • Forensic support • Community engagement The Sarnia Police Service is excited to welcome the new Special Constable recruits into our police family and work alongside them upon thier graduation.

Gr. 6s had a presentation done by the OC Transportation. That training session is meant to help students understand transit safety, such as using presto cards and apps to check schedule, identifying special constables, and navigating bus stops properly @StIsabelOCSB #CathEdWeek

Ottawa police officers arrested a man after reports of a person with a knife at the corner of Dalhousie and Rideau on May 2, just before 6 p.m. As officers engaged with the agitated suspect, he rushed toward the officers. The constable and special constable successfully de-escalated the situation and apprehended the man without incident. The suspect has been charged with: • Assault peace/public officer and carry/use or threaten to use a weapon or imitation weapon (x2) • Possess weapon, etc./dangerous to public peace (x1) • Breach of probation (x2) This is another great example of how increased police presence is making a real difference in keeping Ottawa’s downtown core safe for everyone. ~ Des policiers d'Ottawa ont arrêté un homme à la suite de signalements concernant une personne armée d'un couteau à l'intersection de Dalhousie et Rideau, le 2 mai, peu avant 18 h. Quand les policiers ont interagi avec l'individu agité, il s'est précipité vers eux. Le constable et le constable spécial ont réussi à calmer la situation et à appréhender l'homme sans incident. Le suspect a été accusé de : • Voies de fait contre un agent de la paix/publique, porter/utiliser ou menace d'utiliser une arme ou d'une imitation d'arme (x2) • Possession d'arme, etc./dangereux pour la paix publique (x1) • Manquement aux conditions probation (x2) Cet incident illustre comment une présence policière accrue contribue à assurer la sécurité du centre-ville d'Ottawa pour tous.

Taking action to crack down on illegal drugs and protect Ontario.   Today, I announced new measures to give transit special constables the authority to stop illegal drug use, with the power to issue tickets or make arrests when people refuse to comply.   We’re also going after drugs at the source, holding landlords accountable for illegal drug production and banning the equipment and precursor chemicals used to make these dangerous substances.   For our government led by Premier @Fordnation, protecting Ontario means keeping people safe where they live, work and travel, and we will leave no stone unturned to do it.   @OSCA_est2008 @hardeepgrewal_

People deserve to feel safe when they take transit to work, school or home. That is why our government is proposing new measures that would give special constables the authority to stop people from using illegal drugs on transit and in transit areas and issue tickets or make arrests if they refuse to comply.

ASSAULT: On April 27, 2026 at approximately 10:35am, Ottawa Police were called to the 1300 block of Bank St after a female boarded an OC Transpo bus and began verbally confronting two passengers, uttering racial slurs and making threats. When another passenger intervened, he was assaulted. OC Special Constables responded and arrested the individual, who was then held for the OPS. She remains in custody and will appear in court today.
