@BrinleyLackey Transfer is tricky to isolate. Interesting to know the brushes are not cleaned. Thanks Brinley

@PJKossmann There is no cleaning between applications that I am aware of. Most brushes are used for extended periods of time without cleaning. I hypothesized that the used brushes contained less DNA than the new ones because more DNA is retained on dusted surfaces than transferred.

I am pleased to present my undergraduate thesis project, "Determination of DNA Quantity and Quality on Multi-use Fingerprint Brushes Used in Forensic Casework" for the #CSFSPoster2022 competition.

@BrinleyLackey I was wondering if you would do any tests to see if a transfer could be done right away to a clean surface from either clean or used brushes or if the powder had DNA from the brushes? Cool stuff

@PJKossmann I have also hypothesized that the mechanism for dusting does not provide enough friction to facilitate much DNA transfer, or it may be that the application of fingerprint powder creates a barrier to prevent DNA transfer, as only the used brushes were powdered in this study.

@PJKossmann However, additional research is needed to determine whether any of my theories are contributing to the quantity differences observed between the two groups.

@DattaNeelabh05 Good day Neelabh. Interesting paper. With the use of DNA methyltransferases to suppress tumour growth, is there any effects which could cause lung infection rates to increase? Or any other complications in lung capacity?

Did you know that about 85% of all lung cancers consist of Non-small-cell lung carcinoma(NSCLC)? 🫁 My #CSFSPoster2022 explains how NSCLC cells are reprogrammed towards a less aggressive and drug-responsive phenotype. (Full poster below👇) #CSFSPoster2022 #lungcancer

@MCBolduc04 Good morning Marie-Christine! With such high variability between and within the same vehicle, can you explain how this research can be applied to forensic casework?

@Janicec157 Good morning Janice. I read your poster and have some questions. The use of presumptive may suggest false positives/ false negatives. Did you encounter any in your research?

@PJKossmann Good Morning. Since this research is exploratory, the answers to the survey will help understand what are the effects of these standards on the practice.

@PJKossmann @LaurieCaron31 However, after entering the code, it is true that the owner will perform other manipulations that could affect the detection of traces. Yet, we did not take this into account during our research, but it is an extension to this project on which I also continue to master.

@BrinleyLackey Thanks Brinkley, any thoughts on why used brushes would have less DNA than new ones? Do staff clean between applications?
