This student was having so much fun tide pooling during the Copper River Stewardship Program Starfish are members of Phylum Echinodermata. This starfish is a Purple or Ochre Sea Star. These starfish usually are seen with 5 thick arms and are covered in white spines. #Starfish

The US Forest Service met with the Community Coastal Experience Group to teach them about Dusky Canada Goose nest islands in Cordova. After we learned about nest islands, we were able to go out and help the USFS monitor a nest. #CommunityCoastalExperience #CCE #CORaLNetwork

Meet the bogbean. This plant is found in wetland environments in various parts of the country, including here in Cordova. Flowers are seen in May and June. The flowers are star shaped, five-petaled, and covered in soft, white hairs.

Happy World Oceans Day from the Prince William Sound Science Center. We encourage everyone to take a moment today to appreciate the ocean. What better way to appreciate the ocean than to participate in our coastline cleanup from 9-4. Let's help to keep the ocean clean of trash.

In celebration of World Oceans Day, on June 8th, we will be hosting a coastline clean up. You can stop by the Science Center from 9-4 for garbage bag pick up and drop off. We will also have hot chocolate to share with anyone who participates. Let's help to keep our oceans clean.

This month we will be highlighting flowers! Before you know it we will be seeing blooming fireweed like the ones shown here. Fireweed blooms from the bottom up, with the first blooms blooming at the peak of summer and as they move their way up, summer slowly comes to an end.

The Prince William Sound Natural History Symposium will be on Tuesday, May 16th. We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a watch party, open to the public. Join us at any point throughout the day at the Science Center to partake. We will have some popcorn to snack on!

"Eye" see you getting ready for Shorebird Festival. Our avian researchers are ready to go. They will be out at Hartney Bay using mist nets to capture shorebirds, collecting the fecal droppings of migrating shorebirds to identify the presence of microplastics. #Shorebirds
