SENIOR CARDIOLOGIST Dr ULHAS M PANDURANGI DIES BY SUICIDE IN CHENNAI Dr. Ulhas M. Pandurangi, 59, a senior cardiologist who was previously arrested in a sexual harassment case, died by suicide at his residence in Valasaravakkam on Thursday, police said. Dr. Ulhas, Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at Madras Medical Mission (MMM), was residing in Valasaravakkam with his wife Mona, who is also a doctor. He was employed at a private hospital in Mogappair. Police said Dr Ulhas was earlier arrested by the All-Women Police in connection with a sexual harassment case registered at the Thirumangalam All-Women Police Station. He was arrested in Tirupati on Oct 21, 2024, brought to Chennai, and remanded in judicial custody. After spending 15 days in prison, he was released on bail. Investigators said that following his release, he was experiencing mental distress and health-related issues. He had reportedly stopped attending work and was staying at home. According to police, Dr. Ulhas died by suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his bedroom when no other family members were present in the house. On receiving information, Valasaravakkam police rushed to the residence, recovered the body, and sent it to a govt hospital for post-mortem examination. Police registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
