Hon. Foreign Minister Mr Shisir Khanal addressed the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Port Louis under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.”
He highlighted Nepal’s deep and organic link between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean, noting that ecological interdependence from melting glaciers to rising seas demands a shared global response.
Reaffirming the rights of landlocked countries under UNCLOS, he called for inclusive, rules-based governance rooted in equity, international law and shared responsibility for our global commons.
He also urged greater recognition of the mountain–ocean climate nexus, including through Nepal’s Sagarmatha Sambaad platform.
