@BzzzLady His threat level isn’t really the issue since he’s a King and a Dragonrider, despite being crippled, that’s still a lot of power. It’s the fact that he’s her son, and loves her probably more than anyone else that makes her fearing him over DAEMON so ridiculous.

Mind you, she’s saying this about the same Aegon who never wanted the throne, and loves Alicent so much he’s practically begging for her love and attention all the time. They’ve butchered Alicent’s character to the point that she thinks Daemon is a safer option than her own sons

@BzzzLady As if Rhaenyra/Daemon aren’t infinitely more likely to hurt her and Helaena than Aemond, and especially Aegon. Mind you, the same Aegon who never wanted the throne and loves Alicent so much he’s practically begging for her attention all the time. They’ve butchered her character.

@AtlantisFell Rhaenyra’s growing cruelty and paranoia won’t be directed only toward her enemies… we know how her story ends and it ain’t with sunshine. They need to write her downfall well, and you can’t do that if you’re not willing to let the character actually spiral.

@AtlantisFell Baela may be the one to help Jace slip out to the Gullet against Rhaenyra’s wishes. We don’t know the context of the scene or the season. If that’s the case, this scene is justified and Rhaenyra will resent her. Her sons are more important to her than Baela, and she’s spiralling.

im sorry but it really does not. given the context of the scene (her angrily saying “my enemies have been allowed to muster their strength”), the quickness of her grab, and both her and baela’s facial expressions, there’s clearly some tension/conflict.

@rvgsdelight Have you ever considered that Baela may be the one help Jace slip out and head to the Gullet, against Rhaenyra’s wishes. Just imagine for one second how much resentment she would feel toward Baela after Jace’s death. We haven’t seen the Gullet yet…

ryan condal believes it makes perfect sense for rhaenyra to be ‘cruel’ towards baela, one of her loyal supporters that wants to see her rule so they can entertain the ‘evil step mother’ trope because the idea of a targaryen woman being aggressive and crazy really gets them going.

Mind you once the war began Alicent becomes utterly background noise. The Dance of Dragons is a war between brother and sister, not a war between the Princess and the Queen. You’ve gotta be larping to think Alicent was more important than Aegon II Targaryen in this story.

@Fksaintat If you truly knew/loved her from the book, you wouldn’t be having this reaction to her possibly snapping at someone at this point in the story. You prefer Condal’s softy ‘can do no wrong’ Rhaenyra Targaryen, and that’s fine… but don’t act like that’s not what it is.
