SCAN Group's @myPlaceHealth, an organization that delivers care through the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) model, has expanded its integrated senior care model to South L.A. with its second PACE center in Compton!   We were proud and grateful to have the incredible support of the community and local officials, including @ElectEmmaSharif and Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, who shared their thoughts on what this means for the community:   “I’m proud to welcome myPlace Health to our community and celebrate its commitment to serving seniors with dignity and care,” said Emma Sharif, Mayor of Compton. “This new center will make a meaningful difference by providing comprehensive, life-enhancing services right here in Compton.”   “On behalf of half a million people in California’s 65th Assembly District I have the privilege of representing, we extend our warm welcome to the myPlace Health team as it opens its newest PACE center in the heart of Compton,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson). “Whenever organizations like SCAN Group take an interest in improving health access for our communities, I know that the effect is profound: seniors are empowered to thrive, jobs are created, and people understand that we have a bright future in partnership with community organizations of all kinds. I’m happy to see this exciting day for older adults, and for everyone in South LA.”   SCAN CEO @sacjai also added: “myPlace’s expansion reflects SCAN’s deep commitment to drastically improve care that keeps seniors healthy and independent, especially in historically underserved communities. We believe the PACE model is the future of senior care: accessible, integrated, person-centered, and rooted in the community.”   myPlaceHealth CEO @RPottharst expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed myPlace Health's commitment to the community and its older adults, saying: “We’re deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve communities across South Los Angeles, where too many older adults in need have long lacked access to the care they deserve. We’re proud to stand alongside South LA’s older adults, their families, and community-based organizations as a trusted partner that supports independence, honors dignity, and helps people thrive in the communities they love and the homes they cherish.”   Read more at: scanhealthplan.com/About-SCAN/Pre…

SCAN Group has taken full ownership of @myPlaceHealth, an integrated care delivery organization that provides comprehensive, coordinated care to older adults through the PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) model, and is reinforcing its commitment to the PACE model and vulnerable populations.   “By fully bringing myPlace Health into SCAN’s family of companies, we’re asserting our belief that PACE is one of the most effective models for delivering holistic, comprehensive care to older adults with the most complex healthcare needs,” said @sacjai, CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan. “This acquisition allows us to expand our impact and continue delivering on our mission to keep seniors healthy and independent.”   myPlace Health's PACE center in Downtown Los Angeles serves participants who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, or only Medicaid with a second location scheduled to open this summer in South Los Angeles. I found my true career calling under Leeba’s tutelage. Her legacy lives on through a whole new generation of mission-driven leaders now spread out across so many organizations that are changing the healthcare industry and improving the lives of countless patients in need.
Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA@sacjai

Leeba Lessin was a healthcare giant and human being nonpareil. I learned so much from her. On the one year anniversary of her death, I tried to capture some of the most important lessons I learned from my dear friend for @Forbes. forbes.com/sites/sachinja…

@BryonyWinn @ashishkjha 1) telemedicine a dominant mode of healthcare delivery. 2) more global and professional capitation payment from payers to providers. 3) more focus on the deleterious health effects of social isolation. 4) more respect for people who deliver care.

Idea: Hire illustrators to demonstrate what constitutes acceptable social distancing in dense spaces such as NYC. What does 6ft away look like on a sidewalk? And when should there be more than 6ft? E.g., on a sunny day when everyone goes to the park, is 6ft enough?

@sacjai They also didn’t sign up to be martyrs or possibly die in the line of duty, which makes their commitment now even more amazing. At a minimum, I hope our country erects memorials for the health care heroes who died in the coronavirus line of duty just like we did for major wars.

Lots is being made of the heroism of the US healthcare workforce—but I would say that the current crisis is reinforcing what many of us have always known: It has always been heroic. The current “heroism” is really an extension of the pre-existing passion to serve others.

@michael_gilman -- vastly improved hand washing hygiene -- pajamas are now an essential wardrobe category -- my dog’s quality of life has drastically improved -- videoconferences in my 3 year old's room (it’s the most soundproof, and I can play with legos outside the camera’s field of view)

A few random observations on WFH. Share yours? -- 45-60 min extra sleep, which is good -- more (and better) coffee -- fewer steps, since there's nowhere to go -- no travel or business meals = losing weight -- no dry cleaning, as I barely get dressed -- haven't seen my car in days

Practice social distancing by putting space between yourself and others. Continue to practice healthy habits, like washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and staying home if you’re sick, to help slow the spread of #COVID19. Learn more: coronavirus.gov

Great summary of two important complex care trial results. I propose an additional call to action: improving capabilities (people, process and tech/tools) for replicating, scaling and spreading interventions that have reported positive results. #healthcare chcs.org/from-camden-to…
