Nico Harrison really altered the course of the 2020’s (and all of NBA history) by destroying the Dallas Mavericks and set the career of Luka Doncic back several years with the worst trade in sports history. Early in his career, he was too good to tank the way that OKC and San Antonio have in order to build the two deepest teams in modern NBA history. He had subpar rosters, and always exceeded expectations with them. He did everything the right way, and was punished for it. Both Shai and Victor are on rosters littered with two-way players and excellent defenders who have carried them to easy series wins, while they both played poorly in the semifinals. He never had that luxury. Meanwhile Luka Doncic doesn’t have a single two-way teammate, and the only accomplished defender he’s ever played with is a now age 32 Marcus Smart who is good, but his best years are obviously in the rear view mirror. You can say whatever you’d like, but all things considered— Luka Doncic has been the best player in the world for years now.
