I ended a 5-year relationship in one morning without a word. I went to his place early to surprise him with breakfast and a video game he’d been wanting. I wasn’t expecting anything unusual just wanted to do something nice for him. But I walked in and found him in bed with his ex. He was asleep, she was there, and it was clear what had been going on. I didn’t make a scene. I just quietly closed the door, left the breakfast and the game on the kitchen counter, and placed his house key beside it. Then I left. I blocked him everywhere, changed my number, and told my close friends and family we were done without going into details. Within days, I left the city and started over somewhere else. No argument. No explanation. Just distance.
